Lineup changes as Flyers face Rangers

POSTED: Tuesday, January 29, 2013, 12:46 PM

NEW YORK _ The Flyers, coming off a 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay, will be making a few lineup changes Tuesday night against the New York Rangers.

Defenseman Andreas Lilja will make his season debut, Ilya Bryzglaov will be back in the nets, and it appears that winger Zac Rinaldo _ who has missed the last four games with a leg laceration _ will replace Tye McGinn, who has been impressive since being recalled from the AHL Phantoms.

Defenseman Kurtis Foster will be a healthy scratch.

The Flyers are trying to bounce back from their awful performance in Tampa Bay on Sunday.

“I don’t know if it was because it was back-to-back (games), but mentally, we weren’t there; we weren’t playing the way we want to play,” captain Claude Giroux said after Tuesday’s morning skate at Madison Square Garden. “We had a day off yesterday and got some rest, and tonight’s going to be a good test for us.”

Danny Briere will again be at right wing, but his wrist is improving and he said he may be able to take a few faceoffs Tuesday night.

Bryzglaov will face Henrik Lundqvist.

Winger Tom Sestito played in the 2-1 win over the Rangers Thursday, and he was on a regular unit at the morning skate.

The Flyers’ probable lineup:

* Simmonds-Giroux-Read.

* Talbot-Couturier-Voracek.

 * Knuble-Schenn-Briere.

  * Rinaldo-Fedotenko-Sestito

    D: Schenn-Timonen; Coburn-Grossmann; Lilja-Gervais.

    G: Bryzglaov.

    "Defenseman Kurtis Foster will be a healthy scratch."

    Why?

    This is the second time in five games he's been a healthy scratch. I don't recall there being an explanation for the last time either. He's plus-2 on a defense corps that is mostly minus.

    Inquiring minds want to know.

    Come on Sam, you must have at least one secret squirrel in the Flyers organization who can answer this question.

    Was kind of hoping to see McGinn for another game or two, he can skate play some D and throw 2-3 hits a game.. McGinn Fedotenko Sestito. O well..

    Sestito should never see the ice, ever. Rinaldo not much better.

    Sam, looking at you lines/pairings in your article -

    1) You show Simmonds at LW and Read at RW. Actually, it is just the opposite. Read has been playing a terrific LW on that Giroux line while Simmonds has been at RW.

    2) On defence, you show in your LD-RD:
    Schenn-Timonen; Coburn-Grossmann; Lilja-Gervais

    Actually, L.Schenn has been playing RD exclusively, and Timonen has been playing LD exclusively.

    When Coburn is paired with Grossman, Coburn plays RD. Last game Coburn played LD when the 2 RH defenceman were in (Gervais and Foster). With the LH Lilja in, it makes sense that Coburn goes back to his RD position with Grossman at LD.

    The D-pairings that you show - are these radical new changes, or did you not see them clearly in the morning skate?

    trade Brayden Schenn and prospects/draft picks for Bobby Ryan.

    I'm on board with that idea. I think Bobby Ryan is too.

    The problem is I doubt the Ducks would go for that.

    Give it a rest already. Bobby Ryan is not coming here. The only way he is coming here is when he's in his late 30s. I wish you goons would just shut up about Bobby Ryan.

    Goons? Shut up?

    Typical response from you, low class.

    I dont think Brayden Schenn is going to bring you back too much in return...appears this guy was all hype by Flyers and not very productive...he and his brother are at best average NHL players and thats giving them the benefit of the doubt

    "I don't think Brayden Schenn is going to bring you back too much in return..."

    Finally found something where I can agree with you.

    I'm buying a Lotto ticket.

    Why on earth would the Ducks take Domonic Brown, I mean Brayden Schenn and picks for Ryan...a 30 goal scorer for a average 3rd liner...oh, but wait, he has "potential"

    Brayden Schenn had flashes of brilliance last year. Holy cow, he is very young and hasn't played much at all. Some of you who are already dismissing him need to chill out - and I'm quoting your girlfriends here - "stop being so premature."

    Ridiculous they are not playing Foster.The opposition has not scored when he is on.Since he has arrived is getting screwed.He ran power plays in Tampa,New Jersey and yet they leave the weak number one unit together.The are only playing him a few minutes a game and he is a plus player.Lav is putting the screws to him for playing well.How can the team win with a coach like that?
