LOS ANGELES _ Goalie Michael Leighton admitted he could have been a lot sharper, "but a win is a win, and I'm happy with that," he said after the Flyers rallied past the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, 7-4, at the Staples Center.

It was Leighton's season debut with the Flyers, and the rust was evident. He allowed four goals over the first two periods before settling down in the final 20 minutes.

"I wasn't too nervous. I was just more excited to get out there," he said. "It backfired a little bit and the first goal was pretty weak. I definitely felt better in the third period, and hopefully I just build off that."

After the second period, goalie coach Jeff Reese "came in and told me I've got to start fighting for pucks more....I wasn't seeing the puck coming in," Leighton said. "I really worked in the third period and it seemed to help."

Leighton made 32 saves, including 10 in the last period.

"Obviously, I wasn't too excited about the way I played," he said. "The team saved my butt tonight and did a great job."

Mike Richards (four points), playing in front of his mentor, Kings assistant John Stevens, and Claude Giroux (three assists) led the offense, one that had a new look because coach Peter Laviolette changed the three top lines.

The new lines will remain intact for the Flyers in Anaheim Friday, Laviolette said.

Breakaways.  D Andrej Meszaros had seven hits......The Flyers had two PP goals for the first time since Nov. 13.....It equaled the Flyers' second-highest goal total of the season. They scored eight against Carolina on Nov. 11.
