Left winger Taylor Leier, a fourth-round draft pick in 2012, signed an entry-level contract early in the day, then scored the only goal as the Flyers edged the Washington Capitals, 1-0, in the franchises' annual rookie game Monday in Arlington, Va.
Anthony Stolarz and Carsen Chubak combined to register the shutout.
Leier, 19, is getting ready for his third season with Portland in the Western Hockey League; he had 62 points, including 27 goals, in 64 games last season. He scored in the second period Monday as the Flyers ended rookie camp with a victory.
Flyers defenseman Mark Alt was hit into the boards during the game and suffered a concussion; he will be re-evaluated Tuesday.
The Flyers’ big-league camp opens Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center and will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. for the first three days. It is free and open to the public.
