Lavy, Crosby, Bylsma: War of words
Sam Carchidi, Inquirer Staff Writer
PITTSBURGH — If you watched the Flyers rally past the hated Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, 6-4, you are undoubtedly ready for the Eastern Conference quarterfinals to begin.
Ready for scrums, goals and insults.
Ready for Claude Giroux to try to outshine Sidney Crosby. Ready for rookie Sean Couturier to attempt to frustrate Evgeni Malkin. Ready to see if Ilya Bryzgalov can carry his recent hot play into the post-season.
In other words, let the playoffs get here, already.
The Flyers moved to within one point of the fourth-place Penguins - their expected opponent in the first round of the playoffs - by overcoming an early 2-0 deficit on Sunday at the Consol Energy Center.
Late in the game, Mount Lavy erupted. Coach Peter Laviolette broke Max Talbot's stick in anger and got into a shouting match with Penguins assistant Tony Granato.
Both were ejected.
After the comeback win, Laviolette criticized Penguins coach Dan Bylsma for putting out his goon-type players at the end. Several scrums erupted after an open-ice hit by the Penguins Joe Vitale leveled Danny Briere with 1:03 to play.
"Those guys hadn't played in 12 minutes," Laviolette said of the Pens' late lineup. "It was a gutless move by their coach."
Said Penguins star Crosby: "I’m sure (Laviolette) doesn’t like to see one of their top players getting hit... Maybe he shouldn’t have put him out there.”
Bylsma complained about Brayden Schenn hitting Crosby late in the game.
"That's clearly a cheap shot, clearly a guy targeting a player," Bylsma said.
With 1:03 left, there was a lengthy delay as 15 penalties (most of them misconducts) were assessed for 52 minutes.
The teams will end the regular season with a game in Pittsburgh Saturday that may decide who gets the fourth seed.
Let the playoffs begin.
Grossmann injured. Nick Grossmann, the Flyers most physical defesneman, left the game with an apparent knee injury in the first period. The Flyers said he was day to day.
Grossmann is a vital part of the Flyers' post-season hopes.
Select company. The Flyers surpassed the 100-point mark for the 19th time in franchise history, tying Boston for the most 100-point seasons in NHL history.
Breakaways. Briere was not seriously injured on the late-game hit, the Flyers said....The Flyers equaled a franchise record with their 25th road win; they have one road game left _ Saturday in Pittsburgh.......Sergei Bobrovsky made a career-high 43 saves......Speedy Jakub Voracek had two goals (including an empty-netter), lifting his season total to 17, a new career high....Giroux on Laviolette: "He has our backs.".....Trailing 2-0, the Flyers scored five straight goals after Laviolette called his timeout and blasted the team....."If that's a sign of what's to come, we're in for a pretty tough playoff series," said Crosby, who had two assists Sunday and now has 50 points in his last 30 regular-season games against the Flyers.

- If Briere wasn't seriously injured on that hit when was he and why is he out indefinitely with an "upper back" injury?
Face it. Flyers outskated and outplayed Pens once again. Pens couldn't overcome despite constant Crosby/Malkin slashing and tripping, then resorting to taking out one of the smallest players in the league with a minute left. Asham instigated two fights in the last 5 minutes and should be suspended. Flyers should forget about Sindee and focus on Malkin and Letang. adamklee- Two fights??? Schenn wet his pants when Asham grabbed him..and Rinaldo did his famous..."somebody hold me back or I'll beat him up".....that was two Cryers hiding..well 4..cause Briere was off licking his wounds and Giroux was hiding behind Lavy.
NoCup1975
totally wet his pants! they wanted no part of double A -- and engallend beat the snot out of the cryer he grabbed! cryers arent even good at fighing anymore... they want no parts of the rough stuff with the pens. LOL pens should call up mcintyre for saturdays game. let Steve kill a couple more cryers. guins87
YA cause everyone knows winning the cup isnt why they play the game... dumb flyers fans, no wonder you never win and everyone hates you! guins87
It's put up or shut up. Looks like we lost Briere. The Flyers either take a run at Crosby's head, or they keep their yaps shut. They have to take Crosby out. comin4ya23
I'd gladly sacrifice a first round exit at the hands of the Pens, as long as Crosby gets a career ending injury to go with it... 7xChamp
If a Pen had leveled G with an after-whistle crosscheck, everyone here would be screaming for Laviolette to send Simmonds after Crosby. I think Laviolette freaked out with little or no real justification. This is hockey, not badminton. I must say that a lot of the posters on here who scream for blood on a nonstop basis seem to work up a lot of phony outrage when a Flyer gets hit. 1980
Fleury hates Crosby? Journeyhome has some major sources. Likley one of his 15 year old (maturity level anyway) friends. rt63
by the way urbman, Briere was diving everytime he got touched in that game. rt63
"... Just score and beat them cleanly. That's more frustrating for them than anything else." NYluvsFlyers is 100% right. The pens are completely frustrated that the Flyers keeps beating them game after game that they now want to talk trash - not very professional. Mr. Crosby has yet to be embraced by the fans or respected - everyone outside of Pittsburgh see's his disappointing lack of character. He's a poor poster child for the NHL - Unless being a spoiled, petulant, entitled child is their marketing campaign. I played with guys like him when I was fifteen - didn't matter how many goals they scored - that's all shadowed by the huge star trip, didn't even carry their own equipment bags, their own teammates hated them. Don't believe me(?) Ask Marc-André Fleury. He can't stand the guy.
JourneyHome
Coach L is a hypocrite. If roles were reversed, he would have put his 4th line on the ice in a 6-3 rivalry game with less than a minute and a half left. That's hockey. Your local boy Howard Eskine said the same thing last night. Just because "Lavy" was dumb enough to not put his 4th line on the ice at that point is the real reason he flipped out. Vitale a goon? He is a rookie, 5'11 defensive center who has zero rep for cheap play. Not a fighter either. Goon? Give me a break. There are no real goons anymore, except maybe Rinaldo, who should be happy the linesmen kept Asham from busting his face. Can Simmonds fight anyone that can actually fight back? Did he throw a punch against Engelland? Again, be happy Engelland had sympathy on him because of the stitches Simmonds already had in his face. Flyers and their fans aren't going to get much sympathy around the league given the well deserved franchise reputation. All that said, the Flyers are the better team right now. See ya Saturday. The playoff series should be awesome. rt63
Cindy Crosby was sitting on Schenn and nailed him 2 times in the back of the head with his stick. Schenn retaliated with a crosscheck as Cindy was skating back to the safety of his bench. This Puss better have his head on a swivel for the next game and the entire playoffs! younged
I love all of the trolls from Pittsburgh, shouldn't you be at your job at 7-11 changing out the nacho cheese? cote32
Briere out indefinitely now????? phillycaster
Look the Penguins did what they should have done. That's hockey. Lavvy should dress Shelley next game. Probably Shelley's last game as a Flyer let him go out with a bang. Ferrell31
asham is one gutless dick. hitting players when refs are holding on to their arms. wlgj
Go onto You Tube and search "Crosby Cheap Shot". What you see him do to a Ranger player, with NO penalty, will make you puke. uncle meat
could we have a quick show of hands?
how many people posting were alive the last time the Flyers won the Cup?
anyone?
ok, you two in the back.
anyone else? ekw555
Sidney Crosby has yet to learn that he can and will be held accountable for his cheap after-the-play antics, such as the slashes he applied on Claude Giroux. Further, he should count himself lucky that all he received was a run-of-the-mill shove-type cross-check from Shenn, and not something noticeably more forceful. Bylsma's actions with about 1:05 left were truly bush: send out one of your apes to take a head shot at Briere? Don't tell me that was a clean hit: it wasn't. That shoulder was aimed at Briere's chin.
Crosby's constant whining, crying, and hacking on the sly are three reasons why he has earned no respect, and why he deserves none. 1940LaSalle
Someone needs to remind Crosby that, as the home team, his coach gets last change and therefore has a say in the matchups. Laviolette didn't put Briere out there against the goons. Bylsma put the goons out against Briere. And Lavy's question is a good one - if those guys hadn't played in 12 mins, why then, if not to hurt someone? If they're truly trying to come back and win like NBC wanted them to, then he'd have had Cheap Shot Artist, Crybaby, and Neal out there.
And why do these two teams play back to back, BOTH in Pitts? Why isn't the last game here? uncle meat
Comment removed.
A couple things. First, Crosby and Malkin were slashing and spearing all game, constantly punching anyone who so much as bumped them, and hitting guys who were already down, like Malkin punching Giroux. The entire Pittsburgh lineup was whining to the refs all day, so much so that they called two absolutely BS penalties late, the "too many men" that was only called because the pens bench screamed about it, and Orpik grabbing the stick into his shoulder then screaming at the ref. Schenn's crosscheck was cheap, but it was retaliation for all the cheap stuff Crosby had been doing, including a facewash right before. And lastly, blaming Lavy for putting out the wrong players makes no sense, pitt had the last change and put the goons out after the Flyers put out their second line. Pelti
Last I checked, it's just a game... have fun, but seriously, some of the vitriol in these comments is sad. (Admittedly, I was annoyed by ending for about 5 minutes, then remembered I had other things to actually bother me.) Ump Al
Do I want to see Crosby lose his career over concussions? No--no one deserves that. However, he is acting like he is the The Next Great One with so little time in the league. Gretsky earned his place by being one of the most dynamic players in history. Crybaby has a long way to go before achieving that. It was a targeted hit and the Pens were trying to send a message. However, that message will result in a less than desirable reply when the Flyers hand them a good old fashioned beat-down in the playoffs. And maybe after Thursdays's game, half the team comes down with 'undisclosed upper and/or lower body injuries' so that half the Phantoms come up. Wonder how Crosby and Malkin would like four lines of 'goons'? All that aside, winning is the best revenge. Shutting down the Pens is not complicated--deny Crosby a few scoring opportunities or rob him blind at the net, he gets frustrated. Keep hitting Malkin so he gets made enough that he starts taking bad penalties that won't go uncalled (playoff time the refs all get better glasses) and they start to go downhill. Blast a few past Fleury and he starts getting shaky. Crosby's problem is he talks too much--like his comment after the game. Stuff like that comes back to bite you in the arse. And Granato was using the safety of the announcer's box (inside the glass area where Maguire/Coatsey sit) as his buffer to not face Chief--Granato was a sissy when he played and would never go toe to toe with Berbue. Especially not now :) ena1977
Lets all calm down here about all the Crosby and Malkin bashing for being dirty players. It is part of the game. By comparison Crosby couldn't even carry the stick the Bobby Clarke swung with such efficiency without going to the box. And Canada missed out on a few Olympic medals by not having Bill Barber on the Dive team. I remember a game where Clarke got cut bad by a slash and Shultz and Moose jumped on ice and destroyed the guy. Refs were breaking it all up and the guy is still prone on ice and Barber skates by and kicks him in the face. Fact of the matter is that as long as you can get away with it you keep doing it. Its called competitive edge fellas. Flyers had it in '70's because no one wanted to tangle with the flyers goons who protected them. In this case Crosby and Malkin are getting away with what they do but their protectors seem to be the league office. I would keep doing what they do, and so would every player in league, if you are getting away with it. tixsincegame#1
Cindy Crosby needs to be targeted. I want to see him absolutely destroyed, if his career ends so be it... "maybe his coach shouldn't have had him out there." The refs were ATROCIOUS and clearly biased with Cindy and the neanderthal Malkin. Bottomline: Cindy and Malkin are low life scumbags being protected by Bettman. If Cindy's career ends versus the Flyers in the next few weeks it would neiter surprise or upset me. Also the sh**tsburgh band wagon fans need to stop posting on Philly boards, you live in a garbage city... Suck it! jvmiii88
Ok Sydney, maybe next game maybe your coach shouldn't put you out there!! sawgrass
Crosby dead, Malkin dead, Orpik dead man. acanders
Did anyone notice (because the refs didn't) that Cindy broke two sticks on two different occasions because he was busy slashing two different Flyers? acanders
Did anyone notice (because the refs didn't) that Cindy broke two sticks on two different occasions because he was busy slashing two different Flyers? acanders
Seemed like Malkin targeted Giroux's head twice when he knocked Claude to the ice early on. If the NHL is cracking down on head shots WTF was that? You go after Flyers star they go after yours. rockinrob
If you watched the replay of Schenn's hit on Crosby you will see that right before that, Crosby shoved his gloves in Schenn's face after the whistle. Then acted surprised when Schenn retaliated. BGarber
I didn't read all the comments but from my perspective Schenn was clearly giving Crosby what he deserved. I watched Crosby deliver a real dirty two handed slash from BEHIND on the ankle of Flyers defenceman Coburn earlier on in the period(targeting a player Bylsma). It's supposed to be whoah, nobody better touch li'l Cindy, but he runs around handing out cheap shots all the time! What a playoff coming up though ; Flyers vs whinny Crosby, slack jaw Malkin, and the Pens ! GlenJer
If Malkin spent half as much time in the penalty box as he should he'd have about 60 points this season instead of 100. He makes Crosby look like a clean player. stinky_pete
you idiots talk about sid whining?...too funny. Danny B gets popped on a clean hit and Lavy sobs like a girl. 4th line minutes or not, don't be hypocrites. You jagoffs would do the same thing if you could roll 4 lines. steweygatz- If we could roll 4 lines? The Flyers are one of the deepest teams in the league and have been using 4 lines all season. Moron.
PhillyKid85 - Go drink an I.C. Light and shovel your parking space so you can put a folding chair in it ya Yinzer... Get off our boards.
Hard to believe, but Malkin may actually be a cheaper, dirtier, player than Crosby. stinky_pete
Crosby makes me sick. He's got great skill. I'd love to respect his game. But instead of playing straight up like a man, he chooses to be a whiney little cheap shot artist. stinky_pete
Cindy's vijayjay got bruised... BirdinParadise
It did not even out - not even close. Pens were slashing all game. matthew76
Hey everyone can make their comment, but both teams got away with things so it all evens out and Fylers won, that is all that matters. Boy, Pens again the last game of the season and then probably again for the first round. It's going to be a circus and a lot more fights. LAFlyer
Cindy Crosbaby gets away with murder, game after game. Do the refs protect him? You bet they do. He is a great player. If he was a Flyers, we may even reluctantly come to love him (Jagr, Talbot...) but as a Penguin, no wonder Flyers fans can't stand him. He really is a prima donna, who can do no wrong. I do not want to see him badly hurt...concussions are bad. But the Flyers need to play him aggressively, with clean, hard checks, and get into his head. JosephL
Well, I watched the game and Eddie Olczyk mentioned at least 3 times that Crosby should have gotten a penalty for slashing and Malkin should have gotten at least 1 for pounding Claude's head while on top of him on the ice. I also saw Malkin at least twice punch Couturier in the face for no reason - no call. I'm not biased, it's a fact. Don Cherry has mentioned that Crosby's chirping and cheap shot type play will come back on him and it did - It will happen again - Google it. That said, great game by Flyers. Penguins aren't as good as I thought. jerzyte
Can Lavy please coach the Eagles too? It's amazing what a coach with a little fire can do for a team. He's actually won a championship too. guyguy4
Pitfan...we say Malkin is a dirty player, not that he gets a lot of penalties. That is the problem, he gets away with it because of who he is and who he plays for. Your comments prove our point. flyernorth
Malkin is a crybaby almost as much as cindy. does mario make all of their players biches out there in pennsltucky? from what i've seen from the pens they are very good at 3rd man in during altercations. biggest wuss team in the nhl. i cant wait for the flyers to crush them in the playoffs. its gonna get ugly for the pengirls lol mc62strat- I think today's game was the clearest example of how truly dirty the pens play against the Flyers. Malkin jamming on Giroux in the corner. Malkin punching Couts in the face well after the whistle. Lavy went overboard (literally) but he was right about the 'gutless' line decisions in the last minute too.
This saturday should be fun. gpants
You would never get close enough to touch Sid. You Philly fans talk tough. Easy to sit behind your computer and dish out that venom. Grow up. You guys are still living in the Clarke days. Oh that's right. He is still driving the francise into another quick exit. JoePanther
Man, it would be sweet irony to meet the Blues and Hitchcock in the finals. otown philly fan
Sure wish I could have one shift against Cindy (and yes I have played) Danny would not be looking over his shoulder anymore and Cindy would again be in la la land TKL008- Stop drinking dude. Seriously
steweygatz
Guinos Asst. Coach Tony Granato has challenged "The Chief" Berube to a roller derby style ten laps around the rink. Cindy Crosby will wear a dress and sell drinks to spectators while Malkin will spear from behind. Claudio Vernight
Anyone catch the Mike Milburys comment after Schenn crosschecked Crosby? Milbury talked like a proud Pop speaking of Schenn after the altercation. Milbury pays no homage just because your name is Crosby. Jiggs700- Oh, speaking of catching comments - did anybody hear the comment that, I think, Olczyk (sp?) made likening a Pens/Flyers game to the Globetrotters and W'ton Generals, only the Generals (the Flyers, in this case) won't play along (with the charade)? Talk about blatant disrespect!!
uncle meat
Bylsma has an awfully short memory. Crosby broke his stick slashing one of the Flyers a couple of minutes before Schenn's cross-check. ColonelTom- pitfan likes torturing himself. he spends the day watching his team get thumped at home again, and then spends the evening trolling the other teams website. not much goin on in pitt these days, eh? beetle
A lot of chatter about Malkin being a dirty player. Check the stats folks. Flyers lead the league in penalty minutes. Flyer's have two players in the top 15 in penalties (most of any team). Pens have zero in the top 30. Yeah..and Malkin leads the league in scoring. Flyers just play a dirty game..fine for the regular season..doesn't work in the playoffs. PITFAN- Malkin is dirty, and a big part of that is he gets away with it. If he wasn't playing for Bettman's Babies, he'd be far more penalised.
No one watching that game could possibly claim the Penguins weren't the far dirtier team. Pelti - Malkin may be dirty, but Cooke's even dirtier.
And Pens fans, and everyone else in the league, need to get over the BSB thing. The Flyers haven't been that way in a LONG time. uncle meat
Don't watch much hockey until we get near the playoffs. I know some about the Pens but have to ask the people on the board "does Crosby always slash that much, and never get a penalty for it"? If that's the case no wonder other team want to knock him silly. I love the fire of of Lavy. The playoffs are going to be crazy. delcodanno
So, is Grossmann OK if he's day to day? If something serious was torn wouldn't it be different? Badhog
Cindy "Horse-Teeth" Crybaby Crosby should wind up on a gurney or in a chair staring into the sky with drool dripping down the side of his side-winding mouth (or a stick lodged in his skull) flyers Groupie- You mean like Pronger right now? Concussions aren't funny son.
PITFAN
Schenn was way out of line with the cross-check. Rookie will be put in his place. Keep piling on the toughness philly and ignore skill...maybe that'll get you a cup!! Even Lav thinks he's a tough guy. PITFAN- Cindy Cheapshot is out of line. Guess the refs let him get away with the underhanded, sneaky cheapshots beacause he's a girly man and might cry. Herdman
- Yea, piling on toughness and ignoring skill. That's why the Flyers led the league in goals for a better part of the season. And why they they lead the lead in PP goals. The Flyers have 8 15+ goal scorers to the Pens 7. They both have a top-3 player in points. Believe it or not Fleury and Bryzgalov are pretty much statistical equals (though Fleury has given up 15 more goals than Bryz)and Bryz has 3 more shutouts. The Flyers also lead the league in PP opportunities, showing that everyone targets them. They also lead in penalty minutes.
So, while the Pens are a one-dimensional team, the Flyers will score on you and then punch you in the face, and then score again on the PP after you retaliate. PhillyKid85
If the Penguins wanna complain about the tap on Crosby, they need to take a look at Malkin throwing punches at the back of Giroux's head ....also go back and review Guntiz..sorry Kunitz mashing Harnell's face into the ice with his entire body weight in the last gsme (by the way the only thing the refs succeed in trying to stop that was to restrain Hartnell's abitlity to defend himself)....when the league goes over and above to protect Malkin and Crosby from penalties, hits, and suspensions, then you will have outbursts like today....the refs from today's game should be fired...they missed at least 3 different occasions when Malkin threw punches to the heaad of flyer players (twice on Couturier and once on Giroux); then they missed Crosby take a 2 handed wack at Giroux's legs in the face off circle.....if the penguins are going to be treated as the "French Elite" then guess what....heads will roll in the playoffs ...hopefully Sestito can come back... kadhia- Malkin throwing punches at Giroux?? A couple of taps as they fell to the ice..Twice he smacked Lacoutoure?? Ya..after the play was over and Lacoutoure smacked him first..that's the Cryers game..Hit after the whistle...cross check as Sid skates off the ice.. Why was Kunitz smashing Hartnell's face into the ice?? Because he was doing the same gutless stuff after the play that he always does.. Cryers always flame out, can't keep away from the dumb penalties.. Grossman is out for a month.
NoCup1975 - The Flyers haven't been a goon team for about 4 to 5 years. I'm sorry the the Pittsburgh hockey broadcasting collective refuses to acknowledge this fact and would have you believe otherwise. I really feel bad for the Pens fans because they have the most CLUELESS hockey commentary in the league, which makes them the most uneducated hockey fans.
There's a reason after each Pens game 105.9 the X has a "learning hockey" segment. Its because you football loving Yinzers don't know a damn thing about the sport you pretend to like. You all ( can be spotted wearing a Crosby or Malkin jersey) are a bunch of bandwagon jumpers who's team almost ended up in Kansas City a few years back because of lack luster ticket sales.
As for Hartnell, its amazing a 30+ goal scorer with 66 pts on the season has enough time to produce out there when hes SO busy "gooning" it up huh? Keep drinking the I.C. Light flavored koolaide NoCup1975... - After the game on 105.9 the X the post-game crew was flying off the handle about the cross check on Crosby. They were calling for Schenn's head on Saturday, saying things like "It is unacceptable for a first year player to cheap shot a superstar" and "If the Pens players don't rectify this situation on Saturday..." they are basically calling for someone to injure Schenn.
Nice to know that the classiness of the Pens organization extends all the way to the broadcast booth. PhillyKid85
Target his head...another Cryers rock head fan....Schenn was a tough guy with the cross check, but when Asham grabbed him, I think he wet his pants! NoCup1975
Crosby was going off the ice and was cross checked..That was a dive,right...Laviolette should be mad at himself. It wasn't like the Pens put Dave Manson, Tony Twist and Joey Kocur out..The hit on Briere was clean. He faced Briere and hit him clean..unlike Schenn. Watch that again. Briere speared Adams after the face off. Gutless? How about Hartnell after Engelland SMOKED Giroux a few weeks ago! He flew over to Engelland and then realized he'd get thumped...skated away. You have not won anything yet... 1975 says it all. Don't worry PHILTHADELPHIA fans...baseball season starts soon! NoCup1975- you failed to mention the cheap shot slashes crosby got away with or the cheap shots malkin got away with. Oh, and scoreboard.
theeman1
If that's his attitude (and one might question why someone with the injury history he has would say what he said), I say hit Crosby when he's not looking in the next game and end his season before the playoffs start. Maybe next time he'll think twice about getting back on the ice - since apparently all of his injuries were his fault for being one the ice (his beliefs, not mine). Watching and Waiting
Crosby is a great talent and good for hockey. That being said, target his head in the playoffs. roguefiftyone
Check the pens bench right after voracek empty netter,BLA BLA looks down shakes head in agreement,' now coach'.Lavy sends out the 3rd line thinking BLA BLA will pull the goalie. Not so,intimidation time, that doesn't work anymore. It would have been better to score again that would have been the bigger message. rayjjohsonjr
1975 and still counting. Waaaaaaa!!!! JoePanther
So,Flyers and Gwens in the first round, who do you start in Pittsburgh. Bob hasn't lost there but Bryz is their guy, what to do, what to do? Mozes37
Malkin has to be the dirtiest player in the league...and spineless. This isn't the first time he took a shot at Giroux's head. Crunch him a few times and he disappears. WHY does the league allow him and Cindy free reign? It's Pittsburgh for heavens sake! Not Toronto! Phillyfan666
Beautiful comeback win over the Gwens. Frustrating to see the hit on Grossman and no call of any kind, leg on leg but no trip? Also Cindy hacks the stick out of Geroux's hands and no call, then later on he breaks his stick over Jake's leg and again no call. Is it any wonder why people can't stand this guy? Anybody out there know, does Leighton have to clear waivers for the Flyers to call him up? Mozes37
Malkin's cheap shot to Giroux's head deserved retaliation. Asham is a goon that we're glad to be rid of. herbysson1
It's a waste of time to target Crosby Saturday. Just score and beat them cleanly. That's more frustrating for them than anything else. Fleury was unglued, that's what the Flyers need to keep doing to him. Just score and keep it clean. If it gets out of hand, the Flyers will be short-handed too often and eventually it will catch up with them. Win fairly, like all season! NYluvsPhylers
If the situation was reversed I would expect the same results. No need to target Cindy if he is playing his game he will just get a clean hockey hit into oblivion. This team is not built to beat the cup out of anyone. Score, hold a lead and score again. NYPHILLYPHAN
Great win for the Flyers and gotta love the coach sticking up for his team...People will say there was still a minute left in the game but come on, game was over and we have all seen NHL games the last minute when teams aren't going to come back. As for Crosby getting a cheap hit, he put 2 two hand slashes on Giroix and Voracek with no calls...Why, becuase the Pens and Cindy are the annointed one...Just play your game Flyers and don't get caught up with the noise because the league and refs are not on our side.. briman
Pens, Rangers, Bruins then the Blues. One shift at a time, this team can do this. We have the Pens right where we want them, their minds off the actual game. We beat the Rangers without giving up the easy cheap goals we gave them this year. Bruins get paid back for last years sweep and the Blues wont know the truck that ran over them. Thats right. bigphillydad
And BTW, "maybe he shouldn't have put him out there" should be on the locker room chalkboard for the rest of the week. 1980
It was a fun 2/3 of a game to watch, that's for sure. I'm a little reluctant, though, to engage in much trash talking and chest-thumping as long as we're looking up at the Pens in the standings. Falling into a 2-0 or 3-0 hole early in a playoff game is hockey suicide, so we have to come out and take care of business in our own end from here on out. To me, it's just such an unaccustomed pleasure to see the Flyers playing their best hockey in March and April instead of in November and December! 1980
Remember: If, and when, crosby gets hit and hit very hard in the playoffs by the Flyers, be sure to quote him: "Maybe [his coach, bylsma] shouldn't have put him out there." If it's a cheap hit or a fair hit, if it causes an injury or a re-injury, remember the proper response: Maybe his coach shouldn't have put him out there. PhilaLogic
Cry Baby Cindy won't get touched...he has the league's official hallow around his head! Just like Gretsky, no one is allowed to touch the little girl! It sick to watch, or hear his winny comments...but even more sicken to hear how all the commentators stick up for this little spineless Girl! Dfirst

I dont think Crosby should be talking much. One good check like was put on Briere could end his career with more headaches.
We shall see where he runs and hides next week when they play and Lavy puts the goon line out there when he is skating around.
Good luck Sidney, you are going to need it.
Pat c
I'd make sure Crosby gets hurt next game scootch
It's a bodybag series! I love it. I can't wait for Rinaldo to send Crosby back to the baby-food unit. What a whiny little punk. AJSHAW
I always say it, and repeat: I CAN'T STAND CINDY, THE ANTI-FLYER. Flyers show their grit by churning out another come from nehind masterpiece. I don't care if Bryz is in another Universe, as long as "BOB" can keep the other team off the board. He isn't the elite goalie we covet most, I don't think Bryz has shown that this year, though he has in the past. Bottom line: The kids are back in town, we have a smart coach who knows how to handle a team and PLAY the rookie, sitting under performing veterans. If only Laviolette could manage the Phillies. We would playing our superior rookies to hack position players like Mayberry and Pete Orr. PhillyboyinNYC
crosby will pull an ovary by the time playoffs start HDemetriou- Hey Sam, rename this blog post. How about "One Man (Lavy), Two Whiners (Crosby, Bylsma): War Of Words".
Sid won't survive a 7-game series with the Flyers.
Humpty Dumpty. - Chris Pronger...Humpty Dumpty. Concussions are an issue for everyone son. They'll be shaking Sid's hand after the pens give them another playoff exit (that's right..another). Last time the flyers won a cup....man the film was really grainy...that was a while ago wasn't it? How did Mike Richards work out for ya???
PITFAN - Do you call everyone "son"? Must be a Pittsburgh thing.
TheLowDown - When all else fails, fall back on the ole "we won a cup more recent than you argument." Truely, the last great act of desperation. Fly Guys in 6 and hopefully on Pittsburgh Ice.

Pens are an embarrassment. They never would have even sniffed a cup if Bettman didn't hand it to them. Sidewinder7
Bylsma complained about Brayden Schenn hitting Crosby late in the game. "That's clearly a cheap shot, clearly a guy targeting a player," Bylsma said. He's right - Schenn clearly was targetting Crosby, and he was deservedly going to get a penatlty. It was only waved off because the Penguins scored a goal after a review. So what does Bylsma want? A penalty and no goal? And what was Crosby crying about - knowing him, he'd prefer the penalty to a goal, because Syndey cares more about himself than his team. Flyers up by 3 goals and being able to take liberties with The Crybaby Kid - I live for this! CAFlyers
Crosby is a dead man! He's gonna be an omelet by the end of next game with our Bullies! defiore14

It takes a great deal of denial on the part of Pens fans to avoid seeing why the fans of all other teams hold Crosby in contempt. There's a difference between being competitive and whining. sklandog
