JVR scratched; Bobrovsky starting Sat.
Sam Carchidi, Inquirer Staff Writer
Struggling left winger James van Riemsdyk will be a healthy scratch when the surging Flyers play the host New York Islanders on Saturday night.
After a terrific preseason, JVR is goal-less in all 13 games. The Flyers hope a day (or two) off will rejuvenate him, much like it did winger Nik Zherdev.
Mike Richards' wingers tonight figure to be Andreas Nodl and Eric Wellwood.
In a bit of a surprise, goalie Sergei "Bob" Bobrovsky will start for the sixth straight time. With back-to-back games this weekend, Brian Boucher was a candidate to start Saturday. The Flyers have a showdown in Washington on Sunday.
Breakaways. The Flyers will be aiming for their first six-game winning streak since November of 2008…. Claude Giroux and Richards have collected points in five straight games. Giroux has four goals and five assists in that span, while Richards has a goal and four assists…..Ville Leino and Kimmo Timonen have four-game point streaks…. In the second period of their 13 games this season, the Flyers have outscored opponents, 17-9. During their current five-game winning streak, they have a 13-3 second-period advantage….The Isles have been outscored, 29-11, during their six-game skid….Former Eagle Vince Papale, along with his son and some friends, visited the Flyers’ lockerroom Friday.

- JVR has really been disappointing. He seems to lack heart and effort
I have a friend who knows someone REALLY HIGH UP in the Flyers organization. I cant say who my friends friend is but trust me this guy has his finger on the pulse of the team. Anyway, my friend said he was talking to his friends ex wife and she was saying that her ex husband has been having a lot of trouble picking up their daughter because he has been in a lot of meetings about JVR. Apparently the team is in talk with the Pens about a possible trade for.....CROSBY. I know this sounds like a stretch but trust me...my friend would have no reason to make this up. It seems as if JVR refuses to come around to the teams way of thinking and it has become a MAJOR issue. When this trade comes down i want everyone to remember that you heard it from me first. kidmayhem
Every coach has a different view of a player's abilities. As for JVR in Lavi's system,he will never cut it. JVR is not an energy person until he is holding the puck and is not a creative player.Same moves, same shots,no clue on the play away from the puck.He was billed for some size & power, neither has emerged.Welcome to the "big" leagues! tsunami
