Homer's job safe; Lavy's?

POSTED: Saturday, March 30, 2013, 12:27 PM

Ed Snider, the Flyers' chairman, said GM Paul Holmgren's job is safe after a stirring ceremony unveiling a statue of Bobby Clarke and Bernie Parent at Xfinity Live on Saturday.

Asked about the status of coach Peter Laviolette, Snider said he and Holmgren would talk after the season.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but the feeling here is that Laviolette will return and the Flyers will want to judge him in a "normal" season, one that has a legitimate training camp.

But if the Flyers get off to a slow start next season, a change is coming.

Minor move. The Flyers acquired defenseman Kent Huskins from Detroit for a conditional draft pick. Huskins, 33, had no points in 11 games this year. In 310 NHL career games, he has 13 goals and 67 points.

The deal wasn't a vote of confidence for veteran Andreas Lilja, who is with the Phantoms. Holmgren said Lilja has been having some hip problems this season.

Flyers chairman Ed Snider defended signing Ilya Bryzgalov.

“I don't think Bryzgalov has been the problem. I mean, he's had to face so many breakaways and two-on-ones where we turn over the puck suddenly,” Snider said. “I think it's the team. I think we're fine in goal."

Bryzgalov was superb on Saturday, leading the Flyers to a 3-1 win over Boston by making 33 saves.

Lets see Homer stays..Lavvy gets another year...none of our D men are tradeable and all will be back next year due to their salaries.... and we expect improvement???...Well at least we got a stautue to celebrate the 70's again....Thats all Snider seems to do is find a reason to celebrate the 70's...Its like he wants to keep reminding people that he did win at one time...Stop living in the past get over it..IT WAS 38 Yrs ago...NOONE CARES ANYMORE!!

I care. It's nice to commemorate your team's great players from the past. flyers1000 probably wants to tear down the new Bobby Orr Statue outside TD Garden.

How long can Snider continue to hold the Flyers hostage? Move on already and get some capable men running this team.

Teams had 9 coaches in the Clarke/Holmgren (nobody from outside the good ole boy network) era...no reason to think another good coach will pay the price for the BLATANT incompetence of the GM's and Owner. Keep filling the seats lemmings!

If we don't rebuild, we are screwed
    even longer.

    I'd take Hextall over
    Holmgren right now.

During the lockout I practiced and played with Kent Huskins. Incredibly nice guy and a solid stay-at-home defenseman. Has a heavy shot from the point, good for deflections.

I think Lavvy is a great coach. I think with a couple of good bounces and a mistake or two by one of the incredible goalies out there and the Flyers would be in it. In hockey it's a matter of finding chemistry and making it work. You take your best shot and it ends up like it ends up. That's hockey. If you want to know what a great coach does look at Renaldo or Simmons or Voracheck........or Giroux. And how about Scott Hartnell last season? The numbers don't always tell the story. Great coaches win games against contenders when the defenseman who has the most ice time this year of any team player, is out.

Hockey coaches are human. Lighten up and enjoy the game. Our boys don't always win but they always put on a good show.

-OldSouthPhilly. "...they always put on a good show"?! What flavor is the cool aid? I haven't seen the Flyers put on a good show in a very long time.

We agree that the coach is not the problem. The Organization is the problem and it starts with Mr. Ed. Time for him to retire & take all the leftovers from the 70s with him. The front office needs an enema.

Watch! The Flyers will trade Matt
Read, and swear they can't afford
    to keep him.

THIS IS ABSOLUTE BS IF TRUE! Homer gambled and lost on his personnel moves last year and Lavy is stuck with his lineup which is slow, and injury riddled. IF ANY ONE SHOULD BE ON THE HOT SEAT ITS HOMER!

Flyers fans deserve better. The house cleaning needs to start with Eddie. He should sell the team and move on.

    In the month of March:

Mike Richards, 4 goals, 4 assists, -4, and the team won 9 games.

Simmonds/Schenn combined, 3 goals, 5 assists, -19, and the team won 3 games.

This board still argues that the Flyers won that trade. Holmgren gutted this franchise, and has left them with few prospects, and even less hope.

Based on the current state of all Philly sports teams I think I'm gonna adopt Chicago as my new hometown.

Amnesty Bryz, put the statue in goal and go with 6 skaters. It can't be worse than what's out there now. At least we managed to beat a terribly slumping team today. Woo hoo the road to Stanley comes through Philly. Let's start planning the parade now.
