Giroux line continues to struggle
Sam Carchidi, Inquirer Staff Writer
UPDATE: After practice on Friday, Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said the Giroux line would remain intact.

The Flyers' top line _ Claude Giroux centering Jaromir Jagr and Scott Hartnell _ has carried the team this season.
That said, it's fair to wonder if coach Peter Laviolette will break them up for a game or two because they are in their first prolonged slump of the season.
Giroux (one goal in his last 12 games) and Jagr (one goal in his last 10 games) have particularly struggled. They say they have healed from recent injuries, but the setbacks appear to have taken them out of their rhythm.
In Thursday's 4-1 loss to the visiting Islanders, the line was a combined minus-7. Giroux and Jagr were each minus-3.
In their last six games, the line is a combined minus-17.
So should the line be changed for Saturday's matinee in New Jersey?

I think it's time to break up the line. Lavy has been willing to do with this with every other line he has this season. Teams are probably keying on this line so it would be smart to break them up for a bit. swflyers8
There is about a 3 game difference between 4th place and 9th in East so if they dont get some wins together they may not only lose division but not make playoffs. Some changes are definitely needed. Im no scout but I cant see anything special with Schenn, he was picked higher than Couts and has longer to develop yet Couts is way ahead in skill and play. shanehockey28- There's nothing special in Schenn to see. His success is all on paper whereas Couturier's is on the ice. icarus
Comment removed.- Agree. Giroux's attempts have gone from magical to perplexing since Simmonds kneed him. And his checking-line style of play lately is a huge waste of energy for a top-line center. icarus
Trade Schenn for Schenn then we will have another decent puck moving D man. starlight
Definitely time to try something new. That's what the regular season is all about. They can come back together later. I would love to see Giroux with Voracek. I have a feeling they might click better. I don't want to get rid of Schenn! He needs time. Flyboys always seem to give up too fast on young players. See: Justin Williams, Patrick Sharp +++.
Tinker coach, tinker. Lots of time to see what happens. Go Flyboys. andrew23
Jagr is fading fast. This line should have been broken up two games ago. Does anyone know why Schenn was playing point on the PP last night? And do you think that could be the reason why we gave up 3 short handed breakaways? I know by memory he was directly responsible for one of them, not sure about the others. Nichols1088
WHY is Schenn higher in the pecking order than Couturier?? Why is he getting PP time and more ice time. Honestly if someone should be centering the 4th line it should be Talbot. He was playing way above his head early in the season, its about time they play the players who have talent on the top three lines. And for god sakes bring someone up who can skate anybody ahead of Jody Shelley. Njtod10
put voracek and jagr together. czech line. voracek is ready to break out and that could be the catalyst. but bottom line is this is not a Cup team. starting with the inconsistent play in goal to the huge loss of pronger. i just hope holmgren doesn't make a silly trade andd give away some of the youth we have on this team (couts, read, gustaffson). The Boston Strangler
It maybe time to change up thelinea little for a game or two. Maybe a little tiome apart will help. I remeber the LOD getting divied and then back together thenended up being as good as they ever were srcdaddy1216
Love that line but agree it's time to move people around. Giroux especially doesn't look like the same guy since he got concussed. But darn glad he's back and not hurt worse. PhillySubsMac
Can we please STOP saying it's the play in goal that is this team's issue? It ISN'T. It's the play IN FRONT OF THE GOAL THAT IS THE PROBLEM. Our Dmen are out of position constantly, constantly screening our own goaltenders instead of clearing the crease, constantly making one too many passes that then become turnovers, etc. Don't any of you goaltending critics EVER watch the play in front of our net in our own defensive zone? Apparently not judging by the constant bagging on the goalies. Other than Boston, this tandem is the Best in the East. Hands down. It's the defensive play in front of them that is killing this Flyers squad, i.e., there isn't any, other than Timonen. Americanitis
not better than lundquist/biron. unfortunately thats the very best in the east. although i agree the d semi-sucks in front of our guys. slowmutt
If Sam had his way we'd probably just trade one of them b/c they're all of a sudden underperforming. He saw to it that Richie was blamed for last year & booted & he's spent all year complaining about Bryz being a bust (nevermind he's been here for 40 games) so I'm sure Sam would just as soon trade one of them. Surprised he didn't actually make the case in there somewhere. Keep being lazy, Sam. Just like our D men in front of Bryz lately... thomaspfoolery
