The medical news on Simon Gagne is not good.

The Flyers' left winger had an ultrasound Monday that showed he was suffering from two small hernias, the Flyers announced Tuesday.

GM Paul Holmgren said the Flyers' medical staff  will meet with Gagne Wednesday to "discuss all options."

It sounds as if surgery is forthcoming.

The discovery of the hernias explains why Gagne hasn't had much zip this season. He has just one goal in nine games and hasn't looked himself.

With Gagne sidelined indefinitely, the Flyers will now be missing three players who combined for 86 goals last year _ Gagne (34), Mike Knuble (27) and Joffrey Lupul (25). Knuble signed with Washington as a free agaent, and Lupul was dealt to Anaheim in the Chris Pronger trade.

God this team is so frustrating to be a fan of!!! So now we will really see what this coaching staff and team is made of and if Homer can pull a rabbit out of his hat! I hate to call the glass half empty but unless they call up Maroon or try to sign someone ( and it seems other then Shanahan they don't have alot of options ). Homer have you heard from Forsberg lately? 35 years and counting!!!!!!

my point exactly, i agree that they could trade him, but everyone is locked up and i'd rather have him still on the team than get a couple goons that cant score goals. They Flyers aren't going to win the Stanley cup scoring only 2 goals a game. Something needs to happen. Hopefuly he won't be out too long. Hopefuly.

Right BillyPhilly, Games don't count till March. Calm down guys, maintain low tones....This will allow us to see a whole bunch of Giroux and JVR.

People here here. Calm down. LTIR takes 2/3 of the salary. Forsberg comes back, he comes here. If not, wait till deadline and pick someone up. This helps in my opinion. Gives up breathing room with the cap now. Would have been bad worse if he had a linguring injury like a groin. That would have meant no LTIR and watch him sit on the sidelines. This is not that bad.

Expect nothing from Gagne and you won't be disappointed. He's been hurt every year I can remember.

The medical staff on this organ-I-zation is a joke. I've been following this team since 1974. This team needs a heart transplant. I'll settle for a head coaching change. Goodbye Stevens hello Paddock. As far as Gagne is concerned- Stay home. Your too soft anyway.
