Flyers survive for 1,700th win

  SUNRISE, Fla. _ The Flyers were dominated in the third period, but escaped with a 4-2 win over host Florida on Wednesday, notching the franchise's 1,700th victory.

   The franchise is now 1,700-1167-457-75 in 3,399 games for a points percentage of .578.

    That's the second-highest percentage in NHL history, behind only Montreal.

    James van Riemsdyk scored for the second straight night and added six hits as the Flyers opened a seven-point lead over Tampa Bay in the East. That's their biggest conference lead this season.

   Coach Peter Laviolette was just happy the Flyers survived a late Panthers rally, securing the win on Danny Briere's empty-net goal.

    "We came off a game where emotions were high," he said, referring to Tuesday's 4-3 shoot-out win in Tampa. "....We got the win tonight and we'll take the points and get ready for the next game" Friday in Carolina, where Rod Brind'Amour will have his jersey retired.

    Breakaways. The Flyers are an impressive 8-2-2 in the second night of back-to-back games....Nodl scored his 10th goal _ and first in 19 games. The Flyers now have 10 double-figure goal scorers, including Kris Versteeg......Briere had three points....The Flyers (38-14-5) now have 81 points, the thid-highest 57-game total in franchise history.
