Veteran defenseman Sean O'Donnell will miss 10 to 14 days with a sprained left knee, general manager Paul Holmgren said after the Flyers' practice Monday in Voorhees.

O'Donnell, 39, was injured early in Sunday's 4-2 win over the New York Rangers.

Holmgren also said Blair Betts (lacerated finger) would not play Tuesday against visiting Phoenix, which has a seven-game winning streak. It will be Scottie Upshall's first game in Philly since the Flyers traded him to the Coyotes nearly two years ago.

Oskars Bartulis will replace O'Donnell in the Flyers' lineup, and Darroll Powe will continue to take Betts' center spot on the fourth line.

Goalie Brian Boucher, who injured his neck and right arm Sunday in New York, said he had some soreness Monday but he was able to practice. Sergei Bobrovsky will face Phoenix, and recently acquired Kris Versteeg will make his home debut for the Flyers.

In another matter Holmgren said he would be reluctant to deal seldom-used winger Nik Zherdev and that he viewed him as "insurance" in case someone was injured. He refuted a Russian report that five NHL teams had inquired about Zherdev.

Holmgren acknowledged that Zherdev “has struggled a little bit being in and out of the lineup, and perhaps his work ethic has dropped in practice. He needs to tough it out here and work harder if he wants to get back in the lineup.”

The trade deadline is Monday, and if the Flyers dealt Zherdev, they would probably get a draft pick or a depth defenseman.
