The Flyers are waiting on an MRI report on backup goalie Ray Emery before deciding whether to recall a player from the AHL Phantoms.

"I'm holding out hope we won't have to do anything," GM Paul Holmgren said on Friday afternoon.

Holmgren said he didn't expect to get Emery's MRI report until late Friday.

Emery, in relief of Steve Mason, suffered what Holmgren called a lower-body injury and was removed from Thursday's 7-3 loss to San Jose with about nine minutes left.

Holmgren said it was not a hip injury. Emery had major hip surgery on April 1, 2010, and his career appeared over. About four months earlier, he had surgery on his lower stomach.,

If the Flyers recall a goalie from the AHL Phantoms, it will probably be Cal Heeter. Veteran Yann Danis is also a possibility.

The Flyers host the Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

Emery, who won a Stanley Cup ring with Chicago last season, is 7-9-1 with the Flyers this season and has a 3.03 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage.

Kimmo Timonen, who sat out Thursday to get an extra day of rest after the Olympics, will return to the lineup Saturday and replace Erik Gustafsson…..The Flyers went on a 7-1-2 run after a 7-0 loss to Washington, and they won five of their next six games after being rushed by Boston, 6-1….Timonen said he took the Olympic bronze medal to his daughter’s first-grade class in Haddonfield earlier in the week because “they made me a really nice kind of sendoff video. They were talking Finnish and it was all about Finland. It was so nice and it made me emotional. I decided, especially if I bring back any medal, I’m going to stop by.”
