Stamkos still unsigned; Flyers watching closely

(UPDATED at 11 p.m. on July 5)
Could Steven Stamkos become a member of the Flyers?
Well, it's still HIGHLY doubtful, but an NHL source told The Inquirer that the Flyers will put a trade offer together for the Tampa Bay superstar if the Lightning feel they cannot sign him.
Stamkos, who has scored a league-best 96 goals over the last two years, still had not signed as of late Tuesday night.
Stamkos' agent, Mark Guy, talked Tuesday with Tampa GM Steve Yzerman.
"A work in progress," Yzerman told the St. Pete Times.
Tampa has reportedly offered Stamkos a five-year deal for $37.5 million, a cap hit of $7.5 million per season.
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said he fully expects Stamkos to resign with the Lightning.
That said, the Flyers are prepared to make a trade proposal in the unlikely event he couldn't come to terms.
It's likely Tampa would be interested in Brayden Schenn and Sergei Bobrovsky -- among others -- and high draft picks.
Last week, the Flyers contemplated giving an offer sheet to Stamkos, but they never got serious because Tampa has the right to match any offer made to the restricted free agent.
I'd say the odds are 95-5 against the Flyers getting Stamkos. Then again, what were the odds of the Flyers dealing Mike Richards AND Jeff Carter this summer?

Highly touted center Brayden Schenn, one of the players the Flyers acquired from Los Angeles in the Mike Richards trade, and promising Sean Couturier will be among the prospects at the team’s developmental camp at the Skate Zone in Voorhees.
The camp starts Wednesday and runs to Monday.
Schenn, who turns 20 on Aug. 22, was the fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft. He dominated the Western Hockey League _ in his four-year career, he had 116 goals and 315 points in 224 career games _ and will be given a chance to crack the Flyers’ lineup this season. He led Team Canada to a silver medal in the 2011 World Junior Championships, and he appeared in a total of nine games for the Kings over the last two seasons.
Couturier, 18, was selected with the draft pick (eighth overall) the Flyers received as part of the Jeff Carter trade with Columbus. The 6-foot-4, 197-pound center was named the MVP of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season, scoring 96 points on 36 goals and 60 assists for Drummondville.
Many of the Flyers’ top prospects will be at the camp, which 1s open to the public. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. next Monday.
On Thursday, there will be a public skating session from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Selected players will be on the ice with fans at various times during the session.
On Friday, the camp shifts to Stone Harbor for the annual Trial on the Isle. The day-long event includes a 9 a.m. mini-triathlon competition, followed by a youth hockey clinic, an autograph session and a charity softball game.

I don't see how they could possibly make this work with the cap. I mean, the guys they allegedly want are not high-cap players. ICDogg
How could Tampa not sign Stamkos, even if it were for 1 yr. Tampa is around $15.5M UNDER the salary cap and only have to sign Teddy Purcell & Stamkos. Whatever NHL source the Inquirer is attributing this to must have some connection to Stamkos or his agents. Flyer fans get real here, Stamkos isn't coming to the Flyers, no WAY, no HOW. sox12st
Tampa wants Stamkos, but they don't want his salary hit. So if they do deal him it will be for young cheap players (w/ upside) or high draft picks. Tampa likely would want to hedge their bet (by not taking 4 1st round choices) by seeking a mix of players and picks... I would say that this might be a place to trade BOB, they might want him because he is young, has a big upside and is signed to a lower salary. They may even want a guy like Nodl since they lost Gags and will look for a speedy forward with some upside... but in addition to players I mentioned, they will still require at least two first rounders. The Leafs may offer something similar, but they probably would have higher draft choices to trade because they will finish worse then the Flyers. drmonday- Shame on you for using Gagne and Nodl in the same sentence.
swany65 - Stamkos for Bob and Nodl? That's almost as funny as watching Hartnell try to stay on his skates and check at the same time. icarus
anyone can go to tb except the following JVR giroux and schenn get this deal done hes the third best player in the league JohnO
I cant believe how completely unknowledgeable you people are about hockey. You have talked sooo much idiocy im not even going to attempt to clue you in. Both JVR and Giroux suck, and will NEVER be enough to compete with Crosby. NEVER! But you guys keep packaging these two yo yos up with Bob, your first rounders, and Jagr,(whom you were all predicting would have 70 points lol!!) and trading them off to Tampa for a one dimensional player. A player whom you unknowledgeable phili fans THINK is good because you read in the paper that he has scored 50 goals each of the last two years. This is exactly why you havent had a cup there for 36yrs lol! morons. Flyers=35yrsNOcupLOL!!- "I cant believe how completely unknowledgeable you people are about hockey." LOLOLOL This from a fan of the team that blew a 3-1 lead against Tampa and choked out of this year's playoffs and also choked in 2010 - losing to the number 8 seed on home ice. In the last game ever at Mellon Arena! The Pens show their true colors- yellow!!! LOLOLOL
- Fools...!...were talking Jagr.....JAGR...
Am thinking he quits after playing 40 games when the Flyers have maybe 11 wins.... If he honestly nets more than a dozen goals, fantastic. I can't see it...what a ridiculous move.
Visby00 - You havent got a clue about Ice Hockey mate, if he will be under 25 goals and 50 points I would be surprised, you havent seen him play so whay you can talk like this.

We need more than we have now to contend. If Tampa sign Stamkos, they would be the favorites to go to the Cup. If so, the Flyers should take this time to build a contender and not depend on Pronger as the savior Pete60
Fine, sign him to an offer sheet. 8.5M a year. Homer would have to trade one of Hartnell, Briere or Timonen. All 3 have NTC and Briere has NMC. Nitroglycerin
Comment removed.
Trade Bobrovski, Bartulis, Voracek for Stamkos. Flyerswin
here we go again... john dorian
