Flyers face free-falling Habs; famed lines in alumni game

MONTREAL _ In hockey-crazed Montreal, panic mode is in the streets.

The beloved Habs are off to their worst start (1-5-2) in 70 years. They are also off to their worst home start (0-3-2) ever.

  Oh, mon Dieu!

The Flyers will visit the Canadiens on Wednesday night, and one wonders if another Montreal loss will send coach Jacques Martin packing.

"Rumors? You're telling me about them," Martin told reporters on Tuesday. "I don't listen to radio or watch TV. I don't read the newspapers. My job is to get the team ready for Wednesday night."

The Flyers will be playing their first game this season without captain Chris Pronger, who will miss two or three weeks with an eye injury.

Montreal, which has lost six straight, will be without leading scorer Max Pacioretty, who has a wrist injury.

For the Flyers, goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, who sat out Monday's 4-2 win over Toronto, is eager to redeem himself after consecutive lackluster performances. Bryzglaov has a 3-2-1 record, a 2.85 GAA and .895 save percentage.

Montreal has been getting lots of shots in its losses, but the good news for Bryzgalov is this: The Habs have scored one or no goals in five of their eight games.

Center Sean Couturier, 18, whom sources say will remain with the Flyers all season, will have relatives and friends at the game Wednesday, watching him in the Orange and Black for the first time.

He grew up about eight hours from Montreal.

The Legion of Doom and the LCB lines are going to be together again.

Eric Lindros told a Toronto radio station he would be reunited with linemates John LeClair and Mikael Renberg at the Flyers-Rangers alumni game on Dec. 31 at Citizens Bank Park.

Lindros added he is trying to link the reunion to a charity event for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

In addition, the famed LCB Line, with Reggie Leach, Bobby Clarke and Bill Barber, will play in the game.

In Wednesday's game, Claude Giroux will wear an "A" as an alternate captain. No one will wear a "C" in Pronger's absence. Coach Peter Laviolette said no one will be designated a captain.

Giroux will join Kimmo Timonen and Danny Briere as alternate captains.
