By winning four of their last five games, the Flyers have decreased their odds of winning the draft lottery and getting the No. 1 overall pick.
The lottery will be held Monday and televised on the NBC Sports Network at 8.p.m.
The Flyers (21-22-3) now have the NHL’s eighth-worst record with two games left, including Thursday’s home finale against the New York Islanders. They conclude the season Saturday in Ottawa.
In the weighted system, the Flyers currently have just a 3,.6 percent chance at the No. 1 pick, widely expected to be defenseman Seth Jones.
At one point, the Flyers appeared as if they could finish with the league’s third-worst record, which would have given them a 14.2 percent chance at winning the draft lottery.
The team that finishes with the worst record _ Florida figures to get that distinction _ has a 25 percent chance at winning the lottery.
The draft will be held June 30 in Newark.
If the Flyers draft eighth, highly regarded defenseman Darnell Nurse, the nephew of Donovan McNabb, may still be available.
Bryz in nets. Ilya Bryzgalov will start Thursday against the Isles. The media will announce the Flyers' MVP and top defenseman. My votes: Jake Voracek and Kimmo Timonen.
The players will name the most improved player, and Zac Rinaldo is expected to get the nod.
Quickest goals. The Flyers announced that goals by Matt Read and Oliver Lauridsen seven seconds apart Tuesday actually tied a record for the two quickest scores in franchise history. The Elias Sports Bureau had originally said the record was six seconds, but it corrected the error.
