Emery sent to Phantoms; Carcillo fined

Goalie Ray Emery has been sent to the Adirondack Phantoms for conditioning purposes and will play in Saturday night's AHL game against visiting Portland. He will return to the Flyers Sunday.

Michael Leighton will start for the Flyers Saturday against visiting Tampa Bay. He has a 2.22 goals-against average and .930 save percerntage in his last eight starts, during which he is 6-0-1 with one no-decision.

Emery underwent abdominal surgery last month and has has missed the last 16 games. Prior to that, he was 11-8-1 with a 2.83 GAA and .901 save percentage.

Flyers left winger winger Dan Carcillo was fined a reported $2,500 by the NHL Friday for a throat-slash gesture he made toward the Toronto bench after scoring Wednesday.

“You can’t do that kind of stuff, so I’m not really surprised,” said Carcillo, whose team has a rematch with the Maple Leafs Thursday in Toronto. “Their assistant coach kind of started chirping. I got caught up in the moment in what happened to Richie.”
He was referring to the Leafs making runs at captain Mike Richards.

Simon Gagne's apparent goal Thursday should have counted in Pittsburgh, said an NHL official at the game, speaking anoymously.

Gagne poked in a rebound, but the NHL officials in Toronto said replays were inconclusive and disallowed the goal.

Apparently, they didn't see the replay that was shown in the press box _ AFTER the Toronto ruling _ that showed the puck over the goal line. The NHL needs to investigate why that replay apparently wasn't available to the honchos in Toronto.
