Crosby: Nothing to be embarrassed about

Pittsburgh center Sidney Crosby instigated a lot of the scrums during the Flyers' wild 8-4 win Sunday, but the Penguins' superstar downplayed the actions after his team's practice on Tuesday.

Told that some Penguins fans were embarrassed by his team's display, Crosby went on the defensive.

"The tough part is, if they were in this room, they would see how much each guy cares," Crosby said. "It's more than one team that's doing that stuff out there. They should have nothing to be embarrassed about. They should be pretty proud of the guys they have here."

Added Crosby: "It's a terrible situation – being down, 3-0 – but I think that's when your need your fans' support the most."

The Flyers can finish the series with a win at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday.

"We're not going to sit here and make excuses," Crosby said. "We can't fix the fact we're down 3-0, but I think we all believe we can come back, and this is when you need your fans the most."

The Penguins have allowed 20 goals in the getting-nastier-by-the-shift series. Twenty. And they have been outscored on special teams, 9-3.

Crosby looked at the positives.

"You've got to win one. Focus on winning one and being desperate and leaving it all out there," he said. "For us, the good thing is we haven't played a full game yet. We'd love to see the result with a full game"

The Flyers have not swept a series since 1995 (Rangers), while the Penguins haven't been swept since 1979 (Bruins).

Late Tuesday, the NHL handed suspensions to the Pens' James Neal (one game) and Arron Asham (four games).

"We can't worry about who's in the lineup or what happened in the first three games. All our energy has to go toward winning that game," Crosby said. "If we have to play with 10 guys, we have to find a way to win."

Crosby said the Penguins must play with more discipline.

"Their power play has proven to be pretty dangerous," he said. "....We have to stay out of the penalty box."

In the first three games, the Flyers are 6 for 10 on the power play and have scored three shorthanded goals.

I love how the Pens always talk about the fact that they "havent played a full game yet." Mabye the Flyers are outplaying you so that you cant play a full game? They are desperate to come up with reasons why a bunch of young guys are handing it to them and its great. Go Flyers

    Nothing to be embarrassed about.....
Mr. Crosby should read his hometown paper, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Gazette calls the Penguins, and this is a quote: "The most underachieving team in NHL history."

Geez, if that's not an indictment I don't know what is. If the Pittsburgh media is calling for suspensions for Neal and Asham you know they deserve it.

    Thanks for posting the link.

The only positive cowardly Sidney Crosby should look to is that the Flyers might allow him to get out of Philly with all his teeth. That kind of cheapshot coward gets no quarter on the streets of Philly. Hit someone and hide behind your boys? Gee, isn't he the local hero? I thought Pittsburgh was a better place than that and wouldn't support such a punk act. They deserve to go down in four. Let's see if the Flyers come back even more determined to finish Pittsburgh's charade. They are not champions. Cry baby Crosby literally was hiding behind his goons when he pulled his little stunts.

    Clean Sweep!

Bro, don't blame the Pittsburgh fans. Most of them are just as disgusted by Crosby's behavior (as well as Neal and Asham) as everyone else in the league.

I agree with you that Crosby is a coward. Did you notice he didn't start swinging until the linesman had Giroux tied up? What a wimp.

Crosby is an embarrassment. With virtually the entire hockey community calling out his team (including the owner - a legend in his own right), and his petulant behavior in particular, he has the gall to say that they should be proud?

After Sunday, no one in the U.S.A. or Canada cares what Sidney thinks. He's done. NHL won't protect His Pettiness anymore. I live in Chicago, and my diehard Blackhawks neighbors begrudgingly admitted the Flyers are very respectable--despite the awesome antics of Pronger two years ago. They compared the Penguins with Vancouver, another franchise that cheats, dives, and whines to the refs for special treatment. Go Flyers!

Amen. Canucks and Penguins ARE the two dirtiest teams in the league. Hopefully the Kings put Vancouver out of their misery and the Flyers banish the Penguins.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!Yeah, okay! Perhaps, if the games had been competitive or hard-fought close victories, I might agree with Cindy that there was a slight CHANCE. But we first took their superstar golie's psyche, then we took the PenQueen's collective heart! Both are sitting right there, on a shelf in the Flyers' locker room at the Wells Fargo Center. The girls have ZERO SHOT at coming back. Z-E-R-O. I don't think they even want to show up, let alone win the game. As a matter of fact, it is a foregone conclusion that the Flyers will SWEEP them back to Pittsburgh tomorrow night. We took their heart, baby! And I'm lovin' it. Unfortunately, I'll be in NYC tomorrow night. So for any Flyer fan in NYC, I'll be at either Shorty's on 9th, near 40th, or Wogie's in Greenwich Village. Both bars have former Philly owners and are FILLED with Flyers fans on gameday. We take over the whole block, baby! So if you are stuck in NYC like me, check it out!

Other than the skate around game the last game of the season, the Flyers have played their best hockey in the Pens building. It ain't happening sweetheart dear boy, not 4 games in a row. Take the high road Flyers, Keep your heads up but keep your head and don't get suckered into stupid hits that will hurt us in the next series.

One, cyniccritic nailed it: with the entire hockey world, and now his own fans, calling him and his team out on their despicable behavior, petulant and entitled cindy crysby remains in denial. EVERYONE else is wrong and he's right, everyone else is bad (every guy on the Flyers!), and he's the noble one. I didn't think you could out-disgusting Barry Bonds but this guy manages it... Two, as much as I crave revenge, game 4 will be determined by how the Flyers play. If they are relentless -- no slow starts! -- and clean, the very best pittsburgh can hope for is a close game. And what's more likely is that the penguins' frustration at not being simply anointed champions will morph into resignation and their collective energy will be gradually sapped. Then, cindy's penguins will be rightfully remembered for being dirty and being losers and nothing more.

Would love to see James Neal get suspended as he's been the Pens best player against us.. Crosby is a whiner and seeing him get swept would make every Flyers fan smile broadly. The Flyers must stay disciplined and stay out of the box.. Bryz must also play better.. Way too many bad goals so far.

This guys brains are scrambled from all the concussions if he actually believes what he and his teammates are doing is professional hockey. When your own fans are abandoning ship after a cheapshot-fest begun by their favorite players, it's time to wake up and take a long look at yourself and your actions! Unfortunately he appears to be the type that will never learn from his actions because he has already learned from the league that he can do whatever he feels like and get away scot-free!

Funny that Cindy says they have nothing to be embarressed about, yet his owner (Mario) and fanbase have come out and pubicly chastized the team for their antics in Sundays game. Cindy should be held accountable, as HE is the one that started just about all of it (less the Neal and Asham cheap shots). Cindy is a whiney lil brat and needs to be taken to the wood shed.

I love being up 3-0. But the hardest game to win is the fourth one. Do you really expect the Pens to give up? I don't. Don't forget two years ago. It can happen. The Pens are still a good team. Let up on the intensity a little bit, give up a cheap goal or two, take a couple of dumb penalties and the Pens are good enough come back. Just a little bit of fear along with a whole bunch of confidence and intensity is the way to wrap this thing up Wednesday night. But this series isn't over and you're a fool if you think it is.

Both goalies have stunk. Bryz has stunk a little less. But to me Malkin has been tied up big time. Or he is hurt. And we all know/knew that their D was suspect. So really this should not be a surprise. What is a surprise is that Crosby is regressing to his boorish behavior like he had when he first came up. I actually thought he'd have matured by now. Lemiux I think may have to re think as Captain next year. No matter if they make this a series or not, he has really shown to all he is just a spoiled brat.

btw, Pete Rose was convinced for 20 years that he never bet on baseball and that it wasn't wrong anyway if he did......Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds are convinced they never took steroids and they can't go to prison.....the great players in each game are beyond reproach, in their own minds. Remember that.

Right now he's delusional and grasping for anything positive. If the flyer's sweep the Pens or win the series, I don't care if they win another game. Sending the crybaby and his protective goons to the links will make my season. Do it Flyers!

Flyers fans (and I'm a huge one):

Let's stop talking about how Crosby should be "taken out" or that one of the Flyers should fight him.

We are a better hockey club, that has been proven thusfar. We don't need to prove we are better boxers. There is plenty of room for fighting in this sport, and those that think otherwise are idiots (Mikey Miss, I'm looking at you). That being said, fights are not part of the sport - they are a consequence of it.

Excellent point. Don't fall into the trap of going after Cindy. Just win the game and that will be better than clobbering him. Can you imagine his embarrassment at losing in the 1st round?

Crosby said there's nothing to be embarrassed about? He just doesn't get it. If that's acceptable to a team captain then they're worse off than I thought. Mario needs to tell Cindy it IS embarrassing and so are you if you condone that as a captain. I wish that punk would grow up already. I got more respect for Cooke than I do for Cindy right. now.
