Courting season for Parise

The Flyers will be among numerous teams interested in talking with New Jersey star left winger Zach Parise when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Understandably, Parise was in no mood to address his status after the Kings won the Stanley Cup by blasting his Devils, 6-1, on Monday.
“I’m not talking about that,” he told reporters in Los Angeles.
Parise had just one goal in the Finals; the Devils want to re-sign him.
“I think Zach is a big thing the organization has to take care of first, no doubt about that,” goaltender Marty Brodeur said. “They need to try to lock him in and lure him into staying. He’s a franchise player and a guy the fans love. As a captain, he’s a great leader and he did a great job first year as a captain to bring a team counted out early in the season to what we accomplished.”

Former Flyer Simon Gagne was one of the first Kings to skate around the ice with the Stanley Cup. It was a greatest snapshot of his underrated career.
A few minutes later, in the sweetest moment of their careers, Mike Richards handed the Cup to his best friend, Jeff Carter.
Richards on the Flyers organization: "They taught me how to be a winner."
He then said this about the Kings: “This is the closest team I've ever been a part of."
Lets not get carried away here, Richards and Carter did not win the Cup. It was their goalie, Quick, who won it. If the Flyers had Quick, they would've breezed through these playoff games. Forget the big time scorers, the flyers don't have trouble scoring. THey need a defenseman, given that Pronger and Timonnen are both old and on their way out. Also, give Bry another year. If he does not adjust, time to look for a goalie (again). penncrow19- The Flyers investing - what, $50 mil over 7 years? - in Parise would be like a guy with no pants spending his last $50 on an extra shirt. 1980
How many shots did the LA defense allow Jersey to take on Quick. Defense is a team function.
I think the owners of this team do understand the importance of defense. Look at the money invested in Pronger. Maybe it was naive to think he had more years left of superlative and dominant play, but don't say they didn't invest in defense. retzlaff- No one is saying they didn't invest in D. They certainly did, by getting Pronger. But the fact remains, he wasn't there last year, and IT SHOWED. They still need D

Funny thing is with the Kings Richards and Carter we pretty much marginal players on a well balanced team. They could have not taken the Flyers to the cup because they are not spotlight players. I am not saying they are bad players but they are not leaders. All that said I am glad Hexy gets his name on the cup! TKL008
I agree, great to see Hexy win. Great job Flyers West! At any rate, same old song here: Defense and Goaltending. You guys need to cut Bryz some slack badly. You guys are too knock kneed. Goalies have bad years. New guys on new teams come in and aren't spectacular. Anyone remember how many of you bad mouthed Danny Briere when he first came here? A TON OF YOU!
Wait a year or two, if he is still where he is now, then he's a flop. But yeah, Defense, and I mean a strong, relentless defense in front of a goalie makes anyone two orders of magnitude better.
Patience young ones. WestonF01- I am tired of being patient. 37 years of being patient. It is the same story year in and year out with this team. Bryzgalov is terrible and we will not win anything with him in goal.

They could sign Parise..Gretzky..lemieux..Boom Boom Geoffrian ( for you old timers) it doesnt matter...with BRYZ in net the next 7 years we arent winning anything....the biggest blunder in Flyer history!!! flyers1000
Congrats to Gags, Richie, Carter, and Williams, getting his 2nd since leaving Philly...we don't need Parise, we don't need Nash, we need somebody like Weber. This team can score on anybody. I'm not giving up on Bryz until I see what he does after another season...but I think it is interesting that Snider forced a LONG-term commitment to a risky #1 goalie last year when there were only 2 proven #1s on the market and this year there are a ton of good goalies in need of a good home...Look at the last several SC champs, everyone had a monster defenseman...Chara, Keith/Seabrook/Campbell, Letang, Lidstrom... ktl113
Kelprod3, why do you think the Flyers need a goalie? Is it because they were supposed to win the Stanley Cup this year because they acquired Bryzgalov and it was his first year with his new team? Or maybe you're referring to the backup Bobrovsky and that they need a replacement for him? Those are about the only reasons I can think of as to why you would make a comment of that ridiculous nature. Keep in mind the Bryzgalov didn't play all that bad in his first year in a completely new environment than was the case in Glendale, Arizona and don't forget he didn't get a heck of a lot of support from his defense corps either on many occasions, which at times by the way resembled a minor hockey league defense group skating around completely out of position in front of the guy while the opposition continued to pepper him with open shots. So you're really out of sink to even suggest that as far as I'm concerned and I know Bryzgalov will be much better now that he has one season under his belt in Philadelphia. No you had best look at either the defense or the offense my boy. oaky7
Have to agree with kelprod3, so F-in sick of the west coast flyers thing. That cup isn't going up Broad this week so enough with that BS. GET A REAL GOALIE THAT DOESN'T LET IN 5 A GAME! Then you can talk about Parise and Nash. juicy@34
And the Conn Smyth Trophy goes to ... Jonathan Quick, with a 1.40 GAA" Enough said! Thomas last year, Quick this year. Holmgren, you reading this?? jdeang
Horrible. We don't need him. We need defensemen and we need to stockpile picks to trade UP for a goalie in every draft (1-3rd rounds) until we find the right one. Period. Snider has instilled in this team, from the beginning, a sense that they can sign free agents to make up for their lack of development and scouting. If you really want to be the gold standard again, a dynasty, then accept that for 1-2 years you might not be competitive. However, with this current core, I don't even see that happening. Draft, draft, draft like the Red Wings, Kings, Pens, and Devils did. There have been LARGE stretches where the Kings, Devils, and Red Wings were pretty darn good and still managed to draft top talent. You have to go back to Seidenberg to find a D-man who we drafted who made an impact in the NHL. Goalie? Try Boucher. MichaelZoe
People need to relax about defensemen. Yes we need a steady d-men or two. Let’s keep in mind that Flyers have Meszaros, Coburn, Grossmann and Timonen plus Bourdon showed some flashes. If Flyers can add one or two playera like Garrison, Allen, Jackman, Stuart, Hannan give a hard look at Rozsival and we should be fine.
On top of that what Flyers really need is someone that can teach these players to work together and implement d-sive system. imo We have the right tools to become a good d-sive team. Individually: Meszaros, Coburn, Grossmann and Timonen (when healthy) showed that they can perform on a very high level. Once again, we need a good assistant head coach that can get the most out of this group..
Adding Suter is great but I think Detroit will probably throw money at him. Ryan may stay in Nashville.

All i can say is I am GLAD HEXTALL gets a ring or whatever they hand out for being champions. I support cloning if we can clone that dude and unleash yet again.. new2vero2
