Courting season for Parise

The Flyers will be among numerous teams interested in talking with New Jersey star left winger Zach Parise when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Understandably, Parise was in no mood to address his status after the Kings won the Stanley Cup by blasting his Devils, 6-1, on Monday.

“I’m not talking about that,” he told reporters in Los Angeles.

Parise had just one goal in the Finals; the Devils want to re-sign him.

“I think Zach is a big thing the organization has to take care of first, no doubt about that,” goaltender Marty Brodeur said. “They need to try to lock him in and lure him into staying. He’s a franchise player and a guy the fans love. As a captain, he’s a great leader and he did a great job first year as a captain to bring a team counted out early in the season to what we accomplished.”

Former Flyer Simon Gagne was one of the first Kings to skate around the ice with the Stanley Cup. It was a greatest snapshot of his underrated career.

A few minutes later, in the sweetest moment of their careers, Mike Richards handed the Cup to his best friend, Jeff Carter.

Richards on the Flyers organization: "They taught me how to be a winner."

He then said this about the Kings: “This is the closest team I've ever been a part of."

    DEFENSE!
Would Parise be great to see in orange and black? Sure. But they don't need help scoring, they score a ton. They just can't keep it from going in our net. Need D!!!!!!!!

Not sure why all the Hexy love...he had a great rookie year for sure, but aside from that, I still cringe when i remember him flopping all over the ice doing snow angels while the puck was nowhere near him, letting up center ice goals in big games and for a tough goalie, Felix Potvin destroyed him in a fight...come on...he won nothing after yr 1. And the Flyers had nothing to do with the Kings winning, so stop acting like you won something...and stop saying Flyers west...you're embarrassing yourselves

What planet do you live on thug?? Your probably to young to remember any of Hexy's games. Next to Bernie, Hextall was "the man". He was the catalyst that motivated the Flyers, and the consummate goalie. He ruled his goal crease and instilled confidence in the defense with his play. He "smoked" Potvin in their altercation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4k1MBpGd8uE . I'm sure his involvement coaching Quick was the reason he was stellar in the net for LA. Go back to your computer games..the only embarrassment is your drivel.

I agree with you about Ron Hextall. He was a great goaltender, whose battle and tenacity was the epitome of what it meant to be a Philadelphia Flyer. He had great years in Quebec, and with the Islanders as well. He was a great NHL goaltender. He had some injuries early in his career that hindered him, but he was always a winner.

However, I assure you that he had nothing to do with Quick. Hextall was the Assistant GM for the LA Kings. His job was more involving the Kings AHL team, assessment of talent, and contract negotiations. Former Stanley Cup champion, Bill Ranford (father of former Flyers prospect Brendan Ranford) was the goaltender coach for the team.

The Flyers already have too many undersized players!

This article is completely ridiculous. Carchidi do you now realize the Flyers were one of the highest scoring teams in the league this past season? Why on earth would they overpay for a guy like Parise or Nash. It's preposterous. The only players I would be OK with the Flyers spending big on are Ryan Sutter or Shea Webber. Otherwise they should not try to go overpay in the offseason. I would love to see them dump bryz but unless there's an amnesty in the new CBA I can't see how that woould be possible. Personally now that there's no doubt Quick is the guy in LA, I would like to see the Flyers make a play for Bernier who is supposedly a stud goalie in waiting... he's also on the good side of 30 so unlike Bryz he's young and has all the makings of an elite goalie for the next decade. Unfortunately, it looks like whether we like it or not we're going to have to watch this infuriating russian for at least the foreseeable future. The Flyers and russians never seem to match, and bryz is just another example.

Nash and g I think would be crazy together. But I think they need to do whatever it takes to get weber. Whatever it takes. Whatever.

It would be great, but I can't see Parise going anywhere. I think we should increase his market price as high as we can to stick it to NJ.

some good common sense posts here. Give Bryz another year; he really needs to step it up. Hockey is a big deal here and its tough to adjust to that coming from Phoenix, where people still wonder what hockey even is. Need to upgrade defense; I think its a pipe dream or really wishful thinking Pronger is coming back next year. He was out for this long with symptoms and he'll magically recover in 3 months when training camp starts? Court both Weber and Suter; Nashville won't be able to hold onto both. If by some miracle we get both, then you can move Carle elsewhere. I'd take JVR over Nash any day; JVR still has youth; this year he got injury riddled. It happens; don't torpedo a guy for one bad season. Giroux didn't do a whole lot at first and now he's on fire. Rookies now have good playoff experience and will be in better shape for a longer season. Even Gretzsky himself said our team has a lot of talent; thats coming from a guy involved in another team who has a vested interest in the other team. That means something.

Richards should tell how Pronger destroyed the team chemistry. Hopefully he retires.

I've been reading about the Flyers need D, a new goalie, or people like Parise, but what I haven't seen is that the Flyers don't need to sign Jagr. He would be a waste of money like Carrel. Old and slow is not the way to win the cup. Either keep JVR and don't sign Jagr or trade JVR to get a tough blue liner while bringing up young talent through the farm system. Another thing that has escaped our attention is that the Coach should make the forwards be more active defensively. I'm not so sure that Lavy is that good of a coach - if he were he would figure out a way to beat Tampa's 1-4-1 like everyone else instead of complaining about it and having players skating circles in their own end as a protest.

Agree with all who think D is the most important need. Don't really need scoring at this point. Bourdon will develope into a stud Dman,he just needs to be more aware of his bad decisions. That will come with experience. Whoever they persue defencevly should have youth, size, and snarl.
