Classy Flyers (17, 17, 17, 17, 17) to salute Brind'Amour

POSTED: Thursday, February 17, 2011, 6:53 PM

RALEIGH, N.C _ In a gesture that oozes with class, the Flyers will ALL wear No. 17 in honor of Rod Brind'Amour during pregame warmups Friday night.

Brind'Amour, a former Flyer, will have his No. 17 Carolina jersey retired in a 7 p.m. pregame ceremony.

The Flyers and Hurricanes will meet at 8 p.m. at the RBC Center in Raleigh.

As a first-year captain, Brind'Amour led Carolina, coached by Peter Laviolette, to the 2006 Stanley Cup.

He had an outstanding career with the Flyers before being dealt to Caroina in 2000.

What a classy move by the Flyers for a real classy guy in Brind'Amour. Hated seeing him go, too bad there was a child who wore #88 who's parents got involved in everything. In a perfect world, Brin'Amour would have never been traded from the Flyers. Cheers to #17, You are the man!!!!!

Ha, they thought Rod was done, washed up when they traded him. The "iron man" proved them wrong. Great player, class guy.

I don't think they thought he was done, just that Primeau was better, and I don't remember anyone complaining when Primeau scored that huge goal in the 47th overtime period against the Pens that season, or at any time in the seasons that followed. In retrospect, it would have been much better if they had traded 88 for Primeau instead. Congrats to Brind'Amour, one of the all-time greatest Flyers, a true team player, and an example of what a hockey player should be.

There was a rumor of a big locker room rift between Brind'Amour and Lindros, prompting the trade. Just 2 months later they were stripping Lindros of his C. Who knows how things might have gone differently for the Flyers if they had traded Lindros.

I still would rather have Brind'Amour then Primeau... Keith rarely played. Dude was always injured.

This is exactly why the Flyers have such a good reputation with players around the league. I, for one, am proud to be a fan of such an organization, and think Mr. Snyder is the best owner of any sports team in the nation. Go Flyers and "Thanks for the memories", Rod. You were a great Flyer. Peace.

When I was a child, Rod Brind'Amour was the only hockey player I ever wrote a letter to. He was kind enough to send me an autographed card. He has always been, and will always be, the perfect pro.

My favorite HOCKEY PLAYER ever! What a spectacular gesture of gratitude and respect by the orange and black. Proud to be a fan. Somebody call Carton on 660AM out of New York and make sure he has to acknowledge it on the air.

I don't think the Lindros Corporation would've accepted a trade to Carolina or Clarke surely would've done it. Hope Brindy gets up to Philly in his new role for a little tribute, it'll raise the roof.
