Carcillo fined; Leighton streaking

POSTED: Friday, January 8, 2010, 5:18 PM

Flyers left winger Dan Carcillo was fined a reported $2,500 by the NHL Friday for a throat-slash gesture he made toward the Toronto bench after scoring Wednesday.

“You can’t do that kind of stuff, so I’m not really surprised,” said Carcillo, whose team has a rematch with the Maple Leafs Thursday in Toronto. “Their assistant coach kind of started chirping. I got caught up in the moment in what happened to Richie.”
He was referring to the Leafs making runs at captain Mike Richards.

Look for goalie Michael Leighton to make his ninth straight start Saturday night against visiting Tampa Bay.

In his eight starts with the Flyers, Leighton is 6-0-1 (with a no-decision) and has a 2.22 goals-against average.

After Friday's practice in Voorhees, coach Peter Laviolette would not commit to a goalie for Saturday. Ray Emery is healthy and ready to return from an abdominal injury, but Laviolette hinted that Leighton would get Saturday's starting nod.

About 600 tickets remain for the 7 p.m. game.

What a joke..... pretty soon you won't be able to celebrate goals. NFL is already too strict.

The NHL is extra strict with the Flyers. The Flyers don't get away with anything. If we played for Canadian teams you can get away with murder. To much Biasness in the NHL and this hatred to the Flyers is getting hold. Just look at that goal they robbed us on against the Pens last night.

YOUR RIGHT, CHRISM. IF I COULD SEE IT FROM THE OVERHEAD CAMERA, THEY COULD TOO. SOMETHING WENT WRONG, THE LEAGUE WANTS PITTSBERG TO WIN IF THE SCORE HAD BEEN CLOSER, THE REF'S COULD HAVE DETERMIND THE OUTCOME. LIKE THEY DID IN THE WINTER CLASSIC

with all the money carcillo saves on toothpaste each year, $2500 isn't going to hurt him. i think he's great but the nhl was right, do you want hockey to turn into wrestling?

Why is Leighton starting Saturday if Boosh is back? Not that I mind because Leighton is the hot hand right now, but I'm wondering what's going to happen after a few weeks of Emery being back and one of the three has to go. I like Boosh, but if Leighton keeps playing this well I don't want to send him back down. And the Carcillo fine...this league is a joke. Anything to nitpick.

There is no way scientifically that was not a goal...the people in "tornoto" (AHEM, PITTSBURGH) who make these calls have to be fired for that. If Johnsons glove was in the net, which it was, scientifically, SO WAS THE PUCK!!! It matters not as we WHIPPED THEM but if it was a close game, that would have been absolute horsesh*t. Look for more bad calls, missed penalties (usually a hook or cross check to Danny Briere that NEVER gets called) in the next few months because the NHL hates when this team gets hot before the playoffs.

Heat of the moment against....TORONTO! Listen. That air up there is rarified as high as the thrones sit. Amazing how the non-goal (no clear view) was suddenly augmented by a very clear picture of a puck over the goal line....After the puck was dropped and play resumed. There should be a fine somewhere there for something. Yeah. Right. I forgot. TORONTO. Maybe Carcillo was showing how the Flyers throats are cut by the blatent favoring by the refs against the Flyers. People have some nerve calling the Flyers goons while Toronto and Pittsburgh (for two) suits up it's fair share of dirty players. If you want to really hear how other teams feel about the Flyers, just tune into the Make Beliefs play by play and color guy on NHL radio when the play next week. Buffalo has a real cut up in the booth. The Canadiens still aren't over losing that last series to the Flyers. The Pen announcers at least admit (sometimes) when they get away with one or two or five, maybe six......Let's bury Tampa.

Carcillo is a throwback player, tons of fun to watch, kicks arse 9 out of 10 fights, loves the GAME, brings it every shift... every night. I wish they had three more of him. Upshall was a washing machine. Spun around a lot, didn't get very far.

Why do people like Upshall. He did nothing as a Flyer. Sure a nice guy and a friend to the ladies in Philly but Carcillo is a monster. I said it last year when people hated him, be patient Philly he will win you all over.

I love having a goon that can take a regular shift and not be a minus player. He brings it every shift (something all flyers cannot say this year) Chris M - We have 6 Canadian teams generating over 50% of the league profits and the NHL will not give us more teams (ie Hamilton(the no brainer pick) and Winnepeg) Trust me, there is no love from the NHL in Canada. NHL looks toward strengthening the US teams failing.
