TORONTO _ Flyers center Claude Giroux said he copied the move from Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk, his idol when he was a youngster.

On Twitter, Wayne Simmonds called Giroux’s game-winner in the shootout “one of the dirtiest goals I've ever seen.”

“Sick” is the word many of his teammates used to describe the shootout deke Giroux put on goalie Jonas Gustavsson as the Flyers outlasted host Toronto, 1-0, on Saturday night.

“Sick” is also the way Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov is playing:  three shutouts in the last four games, including two in a row. During that span, he has stopped 128 of 130 shots for a .985 save percentage.

Which team will go farther in this year’s playoffs?

     Sick. Sick. Sick.

When did Ilya Bryzgalov, who struggled mightily for more than half the season, transform into the second coming of Bernie Parent?

And how did Dallas ever let defenseman Nick Grossmann get away? (Memo to GM Paul Holmgren: Signing the prospective UFA should be a top priority.)

Grossmann has been sensational since the Flyers acquired him for second- and third-round draft picks on Feb. 16. On Saturday night, he continued to impress, registering eight hits and blocking five shots. Grossmann and defensive partner Braydon Coburn were a tower of strength.

The Flyers, despite a slew of injuries to defensemen, have won five straight. In their last six games, they have allowed a total of six goals.

Some of the credit goes to the revamped defense and to the forwards for being more defensively responsible.

But most of it goes to the man behind the mask, the man who - after a meeting with some of the team’s leaders - has turned the team into Ilya-delphia Flyers.
