Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov wants to play for the Flyers.

Now it’s up to general manager Paul Holmgren and Bryzgalov’s agent, Ritch Winters, to work out the costly details.

The Flyers acquired Bryzgalov’s rights on Tuesday. They hope to sign him before he hits the free-agent market on July 1.

“I am pleased the Flyers thought enough of me to make the trade with the Coyotes,” Bryzgalov said in a statement. “Philadelphia is a great city, a great organization and a great team with a rich history. I am looking forward to meeting with Paul Holmgren to discuss the possibility of us working together for many years to come.”

Bryzgalov, an outgoing, colorful sort who is a student of Philadelphia history - he enjoys reading about Ben Franklin - said he would “very much like to have the opportunity to play for the Flyers and be a part of the team Paul has assembled and to work with Paul and Mr. (Ed) Snider to see if we can achieve the ultimate goal.”

The Russian goalie, who turns 31 later this month, thinks the Flyers are close to winning their first championship since 1975, saying they are “right there.”

“I would love very much to be a part of the team that brings the Stanley Cup back to Philadelphia,” he said. “It would be a great honor. And it’s time!”

You know what's worse? A grown man whose primary job is an usher at a Flyers game.

Funny how Homer stated that Bryzgalov "is a top 10 goalie in the league" ...Guess Homer was trying to start the negotiations as if Bryzgalov was the 10th best goaltender in the league? The top 10 all make $5M+ per year, the top 5 make over $6M a year. There is going to have to be some major roster activity in the next few weeks to get this done. Some players are going to have to retire or a brand name player is going to be traded. Only other item is that Homer would be trying to lure Toronto into a deal for Bryzgalov...but if that was the case....wouldn't Homer have made the quote that Bryzgalov "is a top 3 goalie in the league?"

Well, he's definitely telling us we are pretty. Hopefully that will be enough to get a reasonble deal done. Keep it around 5 mil Iyla and we won't have to trade any core pieces of this team that's "right there". If that's cool, then Welcome to Philly!!!

If the team stays healthy and we still have Carter, we should go far with Ilyadelphia.

You do realize we dont need to get rid of anyone. Briere, Pronger cap numbers go down. Z, boucher and LEighton all gone, 1million each. Odonell gone with his 1.1 million.

eaglesman1 is a downer but there is some truth to his brief statement. We need heart and leadership, especially from the one wearing that C. Our defense, that looked stellar on paper, played average this year. Offense? A goalie phenom is nice but I don't think it's going to help this squad winning a cup. Too many items to be addressed. Go ahead and name me a goalie that won (himself) a cup for his team. Say Brodeur and I'll say he had the greatest defense in NHL history in front of him. Do it.

romus..the rangers were founded in 1926, 40 years on everyone else in the division. I would hope they have 4 in 85 years, but they haven't done anything but signing washed up players
