Update: Bryz injured at practice, will start

POSTED: Tuesday, February 21, 2012, 1:10 PM

WINNIPEG -- Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov injured his glove hand while making a save at Tuesday's morning skate, but the Flyers said it wasn't serious and he will still start tonight against the Jets.

Bryzgalov left the ice for X-rays and his hand was red.

General manager Paul Holmgren said the goalie was fine.

Coach Peter Laviolette was initially non-committal when asked if Bryzgalov would still play.

Much has been made of the Flyers' inability to beat the New York Rangers this season.

But it should also be noted that the lowly Winnipeg Jets (nee Atlanta Thrashers) also have their number.

Winnipeg is 3-0 against the Flyers this season, including a pair of wins at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Jets, who have won three straight to climb to No. 9 in the East, will host the Flyers at 7 tonight, starting a swing that will also take Philadelphia to Edmonton, Calgary and San Jose.

"This road trip comes at the right time," center Danny Briere said. "For some reason, we play pretty well on the road."

The Flyers are 18-9-2 away from the WFC.

If Bryzgalov gets the call, he will undoubtedly hear mocking chants of "Illllllllllyaaaaaaaaa!" He heard them during warmups in Winnipeg three months ago.

Bryzgalov is despised here because of negative remarks he made about the city when rumors were swirling that his old team, Phoenix, was going to move to Winnipeg.

When the Flyers played in Winnipeg on Nov. 19, Sergei Bobrovsky was given the call and his team lost, 6-4, despite two goals each from Matt Read and Scott Hartnell.

My two cents? It's time to let Bryzgalov play several games in a row and see if he can get on a roll.

The Jets have beaten the Flyers 9-8, 6-4 and 2-1 in a shootout.

The Flyers' Eric Wellwood may face his brother, Kyle, when the teams meet tonight. It would be the first time they have opposed one another in the NHL.

Peter Laviolette will probably decide between playing Wellwood or Zac Rinaldo.

His glove hand isn't really injured, it's just in shock at having stopped a puck.

Is this another excuse for him to not face the pressure in Winnipeg? You know those Russians hockey players, they crumble under pressure, just saying.

This is just too easy to make fun of. I agree with shanehockey - Bob had his chances to step up multiple times and has been equally as putrid. Put Kubina in net.
