Bryz, Hartnell, Giroux liven practice

Here are some quick hitters from the Flyers’ practice Tuesday in Voorhees:

** Eleven players were at the informal workout, including six who were there for the first time since the lockout ended Sunday: Scott Hartnell, Claude Giroux, Ilya Bryzgalov, Braydon Coburn, Matt Read and Michael Leighton. Kimmo Timonen, Andreas Lilja, Jody Shelley, Max Talbot and Andrej Meszaros.

** Bryzgalov was in a happy, relaxed mood. Asked about the bearded Hartnell, he said: “He's like from the movie Cast Away. We need to buy some ball for him so he has best buddy Wilson."

** Bryz on a 48-game schedule: "It's going to be jammed. It's going to be crazy. Every game is important."  The Flyers’ goalie said he would welcome the chance to play as much as possible. “When I play in Phoenix, I play almost 70 games a season and I feel great.”

** Flyers center Danny Briere was in the locker room but did not skate. He has an injured left wrist, which he said cannot be examined until after the CBA is ratified. That is expected to happen on Saturday.

Briere is hoping top play in the opener. At the most, he said, he would probably miss two games.

** If the CBA is in place Saturday, camp will likely open Sunday, with the season starting Jan. 19.

** Claude Giroux said he would be “very honored” to be captain, but he was embarrassed by all the questions about the possibility. “Can we talk about something else?” he asked.

** Giroux, who had a short haircut that made him look like he was 16, got excited when he talked about probably facing the hated Penguins in the opener. It doesn’t get much better that that, he said.

** Hartnell on the fact that a lot of Flyers played in Europe or the AHL during the work stoppage: "For anybody who played during the lockout, they're going to be a step or two quicker than anybody who just sat on their hineys and watched the news."
