Flyers center Danny Briere has a hairline fracture of his left wrist, GM Paul Holmgren said on Monday.

Holmgren said he was encouraged by Briere's MRI Monday and hinted that Briere could be skating shortly. The GM said Briere was "iffy" for the first two games of the season _ Saturday against Pittsburgh and Sunday in Buffalo.

I know there was a lockout - but why did it take so long for DannyBoy to get a MRI?? Isn't he a pro?? Another over-the-hill philly sports pro??

Maybe Danny did not want to pay for a MRI out-of-pocket!

Hairline fractures can be difficult to diagnose. When you start talking about smaller bones, guided closely by tendons.....they can be even more difficult to see on a traditional x-ray. Major difference between a hairline tibia fracture and smaller bones. Healing can take longer or experience setbacks, so you order an MRI. Standard procedure.
