Briere, Grossmann practice; Bryz not afraid of Pens

POSTED: Monday, April 9, 2012, 11:46 AM

  Center Danny Briere and defenseman Nick Grossmann, each of whom missed the last last three games after being injured on hits by Pittsburgh's Joe Vitale, returned to the Flyers' practice Monday in Voorhees.

   That seems to be a sign they will play in Game 1 of the Pennsylvania Cold War Series, starting Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

  These were the Flyers' lines at practice:

   * Giroux centering Hartnell and Jagr.

    * Briere centering Schenn and Voracek.

    * Read centering Wellwood and Simmonds.

    * Couturier centering Talbot and Rinaldo.

    The D pairings:

    * Grossmann-Coburn.

    * Carle-Timonen.

    * Bourdon-Lilja.

    The extra pair had Pavel Kubina with.....Jody Shelley!

    Rinaldo finishes No. 2. Columbus' Derek Dorsett picked up 12 penalty minutes in the last game to pass the Flyers' Zac Rinaldo and finish as the league's penalty king.

    Dorsett finished with 235 minutes _ three more than Rinaldo.

    Dorsett played in 77 games; Rinaldo played in 66.

   The Flyers had three players in the top 25 in penalty minutes: Rinaldo, Scott Hartnell (136 minutes, 11th) and Wayne Simmonds (114 minutes, tied for No. 24).

    James Neal led Pittsburgh with 87 penalty minutes.

    Pens injury update. Two key Penguins _ James Neal (40 goals) and Steve Sullivan (17) _ returned to the team's practice Monday after being sidelined with late-season injuries.

    Pittsburgh defenseman Matt Niskanen did not practice, and rookie Brian Strait is expected to replace him in the lineup on the third pairing.

    Quotable. Ilya Bryzgalov when asked about the Penguins' biggest threat:

    "I'm not afraid of anything. I'm afraid of bear. Bear in the forest."

    Go Flyers! With Grossman back the Flyers defense is one of the best in the league. Briere can play hard playoff hockey.

    Are you referring to Danielle Briere famous for the "he checked me too hard" comment??? Yep, he's a beast!

    Three players in the Top 25 in PIM...yet the Pens are cheap shot artists?? Stats don't lie Cryers!! Briere and Giroux are hiding under their beds right now. I'm waiting for the league to let the Pens know to not hit Briere so hard..it isn't nice.

    If stats don't like as you mentioned, then can you tell me the Flyers record in Pittsburgh this year? What is it stat boy? Tell me the stats at how many times the Penguins finished in the bottom five over the last 15 years. How as it possible that the Pengiuns were in a positon to draft Crosby #1 overall, Fluery #1 overall, Malkin #2 overall behind Ovechkin and Jordan Stahl #3? How were they able to do that?

    — NoCup1975, even though you are an obvious moron and troll I'll slow down and spell it out for you so that even someone with your limited intelligence can understand it. The Penguins don't have guys with high penalty numbers because as it has been mentioned by many people recently, the refs do not make calls on the Penguin's star players. Crosby goes on a slashing spree on the ice and never gets called, but doesn't hesitate to dive when one of the players he slashes hits him back. The Flyers have "goons" that get called for touching the ice. This is why our team gets upset for getting all the marginal calls while guys like Crosby and Malkin have immunity on the ice to do whatever they want without getting a penalty.

    Nickel..which I'm assuming is your IQ score..you mean dive like Jagr did when Letang touched him? 260 lbs and went down like he was shot.
    The Cryers "goons" like Hartnell, who is famous for his glove to the face after the whistle..or cross check when the play's over?
    The big dummy Hartnell even high sticked the angel Rinaldo in the face a few weeks ago...
    All the talk about the Pens whining...has led to a weeks worth of whining from you neanderthals.
    I guess having to watch that orange and black mess disappoint you year after year....having to watch someone else hoisting the Cup..hearing about how it feels to win the Cup but not really knowing..would make you a little disgruntled...and having to watch the Pens win multiple Cups...and the Steelers winning Super Bowls while your teams flop and fail..I feel for you!

    Pens are soft? All I have heard for a week is the Cryers and their fans whining...and Daniele Briere with the "it was a legal check..but he hit me too hard." Never heard the Pens say that! Vitale must pay!! Bam..down goes Harry Z!! Engelland must pay! Boom...Down goes Simmons..Sid and Geno must pay!! Sid with the game winner and Geno with his 50th! Stick to baseball. Cryers have tried and failed to buy a Cup since...say it with me people......1 9 7 5!!! Phillies are gonna make this a loooooong sports year for you clowns...and the Iggles suck as usual. Anyone see Giroux lately???? FEAR!!!!

    Awww. Somebody's off school this week and decided to troll the opposition's boards. How cute. Can you imagine wasting your time taunting the Penguin fans on the Pittsburgh Gazette website? Me neither.
