Boucher headed to IR; Betts still unsigned

POSTED: Tuesday, September 29, 2009, 2:00 PM

Backup goalie Brian Boucher will go on the injured-reserve list, which will open a spot on the Flyers' opening-night roster.

A player must sit out seven days from his last game _ in Boucher's case, it was last Saturday in New Jersey _ after he is placed on injured reserve. Boucher has a lower-body injury and figures to miss Friday's game in Carolina and Saturday's game in New Jersey. Beyond that, his status is unknown.

When a player goes on the injured-reserve list (as opposed to the long-term injury list), his salary counts against the cap but his roster spot does not.

Without Boucher, the Flyers will have 24 players; they could get down to 23 players (the maximum allowed) if they send Randy Jones to the AHL Phantoms, though the team is concerned by Ole-Kristian Tollefsen's troublesome hip.

Center Blair Betts is expected to be among the 23. GM Paul Holmgren and Betts' agent are still trying to finalize a deal. That should get done by 3 p.m. Wednesday, when teams must submit their NHL rosters.

The Flyers play host to Minnesota Tuesday night in their final preseason game. Goalie Ray Emery, who was testy in the locker room this morning when asked a question about his past, will play the first half of tonight's game. Johan Backlund will be his replacement.

The Flyers open the regular season Friday in Carolina.

Typical philly sports writers. Emery's past is a dead issue, but they keep digging it up in hopes that he will do somthing "news worth" in response. Concentrate on the here and now, and do your job the right way. I couldn't care less about what happened in the past, he is a Flyer now and, unless he does something verifiably detrimental to this team, this year, your just beating a dead horse. Go Emery and Go Fly Guys. Let's kick some Pittsburgh a** this year.

Not possible. Emery was bungee jumping with heather Locklear in Jackson Hole on Labor Day Weekend. No wait, I beat him in a high-stakes poker tournament at the Palm in Vegas. Oops, I'm sorry, he chartered my fishing boat and battled Marlin all day in the Gulf of Mexico. I delivered a pizza to his crib (anchovies) and he tipped me a $50. I'm full of it. And so is TR.

sam is the same guy that tried to get Myer's stirred up when he knew Myers couldn't defend himself withpout getting susupended because of his earlier domestic altercation. Pat Burrell had to save Sam's life and Brett's career that night. Sam, act like a professional and maybe someday the players will treat you like one.

They're concerned about Tollefsen's hip? I'm concerned about the play of Parent and Syvret.
