Boston coach whines about Pronger
Sam Carchidi, Inquirer Staff Writer
BOSTON _ Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien didn’t call Flyers defensemen Chris Pronger a dirty player.
But the implication was there.
“We all know,” Julien said on Sunday, “Chris Pronger takes liberties sometimes.”
Pronger, who got into a high-sticking scrum with Boston’s Mark Recchi in Game 1 that resulted in the Flyers getting a power play, didn’t take Julien’s bait.
“I just worry about my game and let the rest of them do the talking,” he said after Monday’s morning skate.
Flyers coach Peter Laviolette, perhaps sensing that Julien was trying to get the referees' attention, defended Pronger.
“I thought his game was pretty clean,” he said. “That Mark Recchi guy seemed to want to take a couple runs at Pronger. I thought Prongs’ game was pretty good. I didn’t see him really taking liberties. I saw him competing hard in battles. He had the altercation with Mark, but that’s Chris’ job, just like (Zdeno) Chara’s job on the other side is to try to play our skilled guys with an edge.”
Game 2 is Monday night, and the Flyers _ who seemed relaxed and confident after the morning skate _ will try to even the series.
In the four previous playoff meetiings between the teams, the Game 2 winner has won the series.
hey orchard,, how are the red sox these days ??? DON17
Eagles trading McNabb to Washington INSTANTLY makes them the worst team in their division and makes a rival that much better...good move!!! ORCHARD6
Not saying the Bruins are graceful or super talented, but the Flyers play some real ugly hockey. WorstSportsFans
DON17.....slow start for Sox. Last time I checked, nobody's won a division or world series on May 3rd!!! I PROMISE you they'll be playing at the end of the season when the Phillies are out of it...no comparison....Phillies in AL East would be in 4th place every year.... ORCHARD6- "that Mark Recchi guy"? the guy that won the Cup with you in Carolina? Inchon
Orchard6, you wanna talk hockey (per your last post) or smack (per your 1st two posts)? Joe
Orchard...You are a complete moron. Savy had and absolute fluke goal and Tuuka was awful in game 1. Flyers knocked the rust off and win tonight. You better hope the Bruins win this series cause it looks like a loooong baseball season for your Sox. You should know about players putting on 50 lbs. with all the steriods they injected in the club house over the last 10 years. oakie
Bostan fans are beating about beating a team that was forced to sit 9 days huh? Flyers in 5 Mike977
Ain't a crime if you don't get caught......Bunch of punks sitting on the couch wishing they knew how to really play the game, making acusations. Let's all play like Cindy Keiferscool
Bruin fans are breagging about beating a team in OT that was forced to sit 9 games prior to the series? Hah, Flyers in 5 Mike977
Orchard: why come back over and over again to a site for a team you are obviously not interested in? You are like the typical Philly "fan" who comes on these sites to boo the likes of Donovan McNabb and Mike Richards: two of the best athletes in our city's history to wear their respective uniform but the small and overly loud percentage of idiot fans are too stupid to realize it. The fans didn't run McNabb out of town, the "fans" did. These people have no lives....if they did, they wouldn't bother typing constant negativity, they'd be celebrating their teams good efforts to make the second round CONVINCINGLY, or out smiling in the sun. No, negative Philly d-bags and idiots from other cities who emulate them come here in their "spare" time to sh*t talk. How proud your parents would be you turned out so happy. Whatever, I'm stoked: FLYERS IN SIX!!!! (Because they are a better team and have a better coach) dr.elektrika
mike....BostAN? its BOSTON....spellcheck...I am busting chops kids....get a sense of friggin humor....now all of a sudden the excuse for game 1 loss was 9 days off? come on...Bruins had some days off too after a MUCH more physical series vs Buff than Flyers had vs Devils...Savard goal was a fluke? did it trickle in and I just imagined a bullet in the top corner? wow....I was kiddin with you guys but come on...talk about a LAYOFF.....Savard was sitting in a dark room unable to pick his headup 3 weeks ago and he scores an OT game winner his first game back...PLEASE, for the sake of other FLyers fans and ESPECIALLY for the players(give them credit), dont blame it on a long layoff...if anything it gives them time to rest....if FLyers win this series, I'll say theyre the better team...if the Bruins win, dont make an excuse that they had a 9 day layoff...Rask wasnt awful in game 1 but did give up 4 goals which he very rarely does...Brian the waterboy Boucher played a GREAT game and gave up 5 goals...either way, a wins a win and Rask didnt play his best...I'd love nothing more than to see a hard fought series vs Philly...get a sense of humor....realize its not life and death and have fun with a renewed rivalry.....good luck ORCHARD6
hey Dr CARMEN Electrika....as most others were ablet to figure out, I am a HUGE Bruins fan and was busting chops...as far as McNabb, the comment I made about mcNabb was that Philly fans are going to REGRET booing him out of town...read before you reply will you? ORCHARD6
Carmen Electrika....flyers in SIX because theyre a better team and have a better coach? based on what? regular season record? game 1? head to head? ORCHARD6
"Ryan Howard signed a huge contract, now its only a matter of time before he adds 50 lbs and is hurt all the time" Well, if that's the case, the Phillies can just trade him to the Red Sox, he would fit in perfectly with that group. He would fit right in with that group of overweight, aging, injury prone overpaid players. AreaMan
