Boston coach whines about Pronger

POSTED: Monday, May 3, 2010, 2:29 PM

BOSTON _ Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien didn’t call Flyers defensemen Chris Pronger a dirty player.

     But the implication was there.

“We all know,” Julien said on Sunday, “Chris Pronger takes liberties sometimes.”

Pronger, who got into a high-sticking scrum with Boston’s Mark Recchi in Game 1 that resulted in the Flyers getting a power play, didn’t take Julien’s bait.

“I just worry about my game and let the rest of them do the talking,” he said after Monday’s morning skate.

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette, perhaps sensing that Julien was trying to get the referees' attention, defended Pronger.

“I thought his game was pretty clean,” he said. “That Mark Recchi guy seemed to want to take a couple runs at Pronger. I thought Prongs’ game was pretty good. I didn’t see him really taking liberties. I saw him competing hard in battles. He had the altercation with Mark, but that’s Chris’ job, just like (Zdeno) Chara’s job on the other side is to try to play our skilled guys with an edge.”

Game 2 is Monday night, and the Flyers _ who seemed relaxed and confident after the morning skate _ will try to even the series.

In the four previous playoff meetiings between the teams, the Game 2 winner has won the series.

Orchard is the worst combo- a whacko lame opposing fan AND a wuss. If you're gonna come on here and talk smack- stand by it MARY! For cryin out loud! I hope the Bruins have the same estrogen levels you do- we'll be moving on the round 3 in 5!

That's right Julien, cry, whine, and work the refs, just like someone from Pittsburgh we know..Actually Pronger is a mild form of what he used to be, but has been a force in the playoffs.

O6: Boosh will shut out the B's at least once this series. If you think game one was the best he can play you weren't paying attention in the last round.

I think Pronger has surprised this season with his lack of "nasty"

I don't know who is stupider here. The idiot writer trying to entice the hometown fans (readers).....or the actual Flyers fans getting caught up in this. It's the playoffs. Coaches using the media is as common as playoff beards. Given Pronger's pedigree, he's an easy target. Too bad the writer or the idiot readers are too clueless to figure this out.

Don't be fooled buy Julien's dissing of Pronger. It's an old Canadian trick started by Punch Imlach in the 1940's to confuse reporters. It is highly unlikely, albeit possible, that Pronger will kill more than two Bruins.
