Bobrovsky gets starting nod for Flyers

Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky will start Thursday night against visiting Winnipeg, coach Peter Laviolette said.

Laviolette claimed it had nothing to do with Ilya Bryzgalov's recent struggles — he has allowed 14 goals over his last three games — and that he had planned to use Bobrovsky because the Flyers are playing games on consecutive nights.

He said it with a straight face.

Bryzgalov lost in Montreal on Wednesday, 5-1.

Bobrovsky is 2-0 with a 2.01 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. Bryzgalov is 3-3-1 with a 3.16 GAA and .884 SP.

Let the goalie controversy begin.

Feisty winger Zac Rinaldo and defenseman Erik Gustafsson were recalled from the Phantoms, and Brayden Schenn was put on the long-term injured list with a broken left foot. As it turns out, Schenn broke the foot blocking a first-period shot Wednesday against Montreal, but he remained in the game.

Laviolette would not reveal his starting lines for Thursday, but it wouldn't be surprising if he went back to the units that started the season 4-0-1.
