Gustafsson expects to be ready for Saturday

Flyers defenseman Erik Gustafsson participated in practice and says he expects to be ready for Saturday’s noon matchup against the visiting Ottawa Senators.

Gustafsson took a shot off his shin in Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Washington.

He participated fully in Friday’s practice at the Skate Zone.

“I will be ready if coach wants me to play, I will be ready to go I think.” Gustafsson said.

He said he felt better the longer he was on the ice.

“I was a little concerned at the start of practice but I felt good as I warmed up,” he said.

Gustafsson drew high praise from coach Peter Laviolette.

“It was good to see Gus out there and he has really played well for us,” Laviolette said. “He has been moving the puck and moving himself and he’s been mobile back there and has really come in and done a nice job since coming back from his injury.”

Gustafsson suffered a fractured ankle while blocking a shot in December when playing for the Phantoms.

“It was good to see him back out there (on Friday) and not hung up from the other night,” Laviolette said.

Good news for Gus and Flyers. What is Meszaros status. Does he need a surgery?
