Chef Schenn returning to lineup; Bryz to start
Sam Carchidi, Inquirer Staff Writer
TAMPA _ Center Brayden Schenn will return to the lineup for the first time in three-plus weeks, and Ilya Bryzgalov will be in goal when the Flyers play Tampa Bay on Tuesday night.
Schenn, 20, has missed the last nine games since suffering what the Flyers called a "mild" concussion in Phoenix on Dec. 3.
"You just want to get the first shift, the first period and the first game out of the way, then you can stop thinking about it and keep going on with the season," Schenn said of his injury. "I've been sitting home and thinking about it obviously quite a bit lately, and it's just good to get this out of the way and move on."
Acquired with Wayne Simmonds and a No. 2 draft pick in 2012 in the deal that sent Mike Richards to Los Angeles last summer, Schenn has had an injury-plagued season. He injured his shoulder in the preseason and broke his foot earlier in the season. In six games, he has no points and is minus-6.
In seven games with the AHL Phantoms, he had six goals and six assists.
All told, he has played in 15 NHL games and has no goals and two assists.
On Christmas Eve and Christmas, Schenn was the head chef at Scott Hartnell's Old City residence, cooking a turkey dinner for Hartnell, Matt Read and Claude Giroux.
"Surprisingly, it was good," Read said. "I'd give him an A-minus."
The players said they called their moms several times to ask questions about the cooking.

It appears defenseman Erik Gustafsson will not play Tuesday night, though he skated with the team in the morning. Gustafsson is close to returning from wrist surgery. Center Sean Couturier (head injury) is also getting close to returning.

Get JVR healthy ASAP. richw38
How many shifts until he gets injured again? Ill set the over/under at 7. Neebo
They used to call guys with his luck "snakebit." Injuries follow him like his shadow rustypop58
Your a jacka** nice post. I bet your one who thinks his career is already based on his injuries this year. How many times a year do you get laid? I'll set the over at 1. auspitz.paul- There's no such thing as a mild concussion, Sam. Ask any neurologist. stefek23
JVR will not get healthy without surgery to fix his sports hernia/abdominal muscle tear, his hip cam impingement or his knee. He will skate like in quicksand the rest of the year, so get used to it, it's just the way it is with NHLers......he probably could have the surgeries now and be ready for the playoffs but as we saw with the Phillies and Polanco, they would rather him play all year and into the playoffs than risk some unfortold thing happening that puts the player out the rest of the year and playoffs...even if said player is essentially reduced to a very average player......which right now and most of this season, JVR has been. Mark1npt- The JVR situation is tough. He hasn't been on his game this year, and it's starting to become more clear why. On one hand, he could get the surgery and get back in time for the last 10 or so and playoffs. On the other, even with our offensive depth, he would be a tough player to not have available. If Talbot or Simmonds were to go down (concussed, perhaps), we would be screwed. It's a shame, JVR is a thrill to watch when he's got his legs. gpants
Well I guess if we can deal with pronger being hurt all the time and the Bryz not being able to stop the puck, we can deal with JVR being injured, at least JVR has the potential to improve. NCFLYER
