It will be interesting to see how the NHL handles the hit by Jody Shelley on Darryl Boyce that earned the Flyers forward a game misconduct in Wednesday’s 4-2 preseason loss to the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.

Shelley wasn’t around to comment afterwards but others were. In addition to the game misconduct, he received five minutes for boarding Boyce and five minutes for fighting Jay Rosehill in a spirited scrap.

Rosehill received two minutes as an instigator, five minutes for fighting and 10 minute misconduct.

Boyce showed his toughness by returning to the game in the third period after taking one hellacious shot.

"I was going in for the puck and just sort of got hit from behind there," Boyce said. "It was not a clean hit for sure. "

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said he would have to go back and look at the hit on tape before making a judgment. He did stick up for Shelley’s character.

"I know the league is looking at incidents, so the fact that there was a call and a game misconduct, I’m sure it will get looked at," Laviolette said. "Hopefully nothing happens. he’s a fairly honest player."

Rosehill was level-headed in his criticism of Shelley.

"You know, I don’t know him as being a dirty player," Rosehill said. "I have never played against him where I had to do something like that."

Obviously he felt he had to do react to the hit.

"The fact is whether it was a dirty hit or not, a guy on my line went down," Rosehill said. "With our team, guys like that are going to have to answer to somebody."

And now Shelley will likely have to answer to the NHL.
