Updates on Carter, Pronger vs. Bruins

POSTED: Wednesday, May 4, 2011, 3:08 PM

BOSTON _ Jeff Carter, who has been sidelined by a knee injury,  will be a game-time decision Wednesday night in Boston. For the Flyers, that’s the good news.

The bad news: There are indications that defenseman Chris Pronger’s hamstring/back injury could keep him out of the rest of the series. Pronger did not take part in the morning skate Wednesday.

The Flyers face Boston at TD Garden Wednesday night. They trail the Bruins, two games to none.

The Flyers are treating tonight’s matchup as if it were a Game 7.

“We have to. Obviously we came back from 0-3 last year, but I don’t think our guys want to do that again. It was stressful,” said center Claude Giroux, who leads the NHL with 12 playoff points. “Tonight if we win, we’re back in the series and right back in the mix.”

“Obviously there’s a big difference between 2-1 and 3-0,” said Ville Leino, adding that the Flyers will have a Game 7 mentality Wednesday night.

The Flyers can draw confidence from dominating the Bruins in Monday's third period and most of the OT. They outshot Boston, 32-12, during that span.

“We just didn’t get the bounces, but I’m sure if we work that hard, we’ll get the bounces tonight,” Leino said.

Carter, who led the Flyers with 36 goals this season, may be used on the power play Wednesday. He was skating gingerly at Wednesday’s morning practice.

Asked if he could be effective at that pace, Carter said, “It’s a quick game right now, so I’m not too sure.”

Asked if he was optimistic he could play Wednesday, Carter said, “I don’t know.”

If Carter plays, Jody Shelley will likely be scratched.

Forwards Eric Wellwood and Ben Holmstrom, and defensemen Danny Syvret and Matt Walker were among the Flyers at the morning skate.

Brian Boucher will be the Flyers' starting goalie Wednesday,

Boston defenseman Adam McQuaid did not take part in the morning skate and will probably be replaced Wednesday night by 35-year-old Shane Hnidy. McQuaid suffered a sprained neck when he slammed head-first into the end boards in Game 2,

Hnidy was signed as a free agent in late February and played in just three regular-season games with the Bruins. He also played in one game in the conference quarterfinals, replacing the injured Zdeno Chara against Montreal.

If Pronger's out for good then that is the last nail in the coffin.

Please give Kate Smith a rest. She's outlived her usefulness. Was a great motivator back in the day, but her record hasn't been too good lately. Would rather see Lauren Hart any day.

I've been watching the games from out west (Las Vegas) and I can't believe that our boys are playing so well but couldn't get a home win. We have to take tonights game or sad to say it's over. I really don't see the boys making another miricle comeback from 0-3.....I guess it could happen again but I'm really hoping the boys turn it around starting tonight! Let's go Flyers!!!!!

I knew when Lavy went short leash on Bob in Rnd 1 Gm2 (after giving up one goal in gm1) that our playoff hopes were on borrowed time. Why he's stuck with Boosh (whom I like) is beyond me. The only time Bob has looked bad is when the D decides not to play (exactly like they did on the 5 goal shellacking Boosh took in game 1 of this series).

Doesn't help we're without our number one goal scorer and number one defenseman but I'm still of the mindset we'd at the very least be even if Bob would have started this series.

WestCoastFlyer...you must be kidding. Bobrovsky has looked beyond lost. He is completely overplaying pucks, and usually ends up laying on the ice doing the snow angel. Boucher has been pretty damn good, aside from 2 minutes in Buffalo. Bobrovsky has a 3.50 GAA and .875 sv%....They gave him the entire season to prove that he was a starter, and he couldn't do it. He was an experiment that didn't work.

It is about time Comcast took a look at this owner Snider, Luekko, and Holmgren and asked for an accountability. This organization is a joke. They need some real hockey people running it. The fans of Philadelphia are the best and deserve better. Snider's comments after last 5-1 beating indicate he is completely out of touch with reality. Completely.

Hexy, what is Bouchers record against Boston for the past 2 years? Enough said.

Forget about 1st round. 1st round is irrelevant now. Bobrovsky is possible future of this team. Boucher is gone(hopefully). Roll with Bobrovsky. This Flyers team won't win anything this year. So may as well roll with rookie.
