Specter: Sestak a 'hypocrite'

If the Pa. Senate campaign is heating up this much now, imagine how lively it will get when Joe Sestak formally enters the race.

Specter: Sestak a 'hypocrite'

POSTED: Friday, July 10, 2009, 2:55 PM
Rep. Joe Sestak is expected to run for the Senate.

Sen. Arlen Specter is hitting back against likely primary opponent Rep. Joe Sestak, and it's only July.

Specter called his fellow Democrat a "flagrant hypocrite" after Sestak claimed to be the only "true Democrat" in the Senate race. Well, Sestak isn't officially IN the Senate race yet, but you get the idea.

Specter's campaign pointed out that Sestak registered as a Democrat in 2006, just prior to his run against former Rep. Curt Weldon in the Seventh District. Sestak, a retired admiral, has said he was independent before that due to his military career.

Sestak has criticized Specter for switching from the GOP this spring out of political expedience. The senator's internal polling showed he likely would lose the 2010 Republican primary to former Rep. Pat Toomey.

If the campaign is heating up this much now, imagine how lively it will get when Sestak formally enters the race.

It is entirely appropriate that Sestak was a registered independent before he entered politics. He graduated from high school, went straight to the Naval Academy, graduated and then began a 31 year career in the Navy, one which saw him serve all over the world. Sestak did not "change parties." If Specter thought he could be re-elected again as a Republican, he would still be a Republican. The only principle involved in Specter changing parties was "get re-elected."

Good to know Senator Arlen still has a pulse. Should be fun.

Specter calling someone a hypocrite is like a pig calling someone muddy.

Go back and read what people who served with and under Sleestak in the Navy had to say about him - they all hated him.

Here's my prediction: Arlen and Joe will slug in out in the primary, and no other than gentleman "Tom Ridge" will waltz to victory as Senator Ridge against eith Arlen or Joe. Either the Dems need to strike a deal between Arlen and Joe to give Arlen full political clout and support, or Tom Ridge will take the spoils...

Friendly fire incidents are common around Specter.
