Inquirer Editorial Extra: Roxborough High needs magnet

Roxborough High principal Stephen Brandt is to be congratulated for his tremendous efforts to improve the school, but the decline in the number of local students attending the school can be traced to magnet schools ("Roxborough High principal will be honored as one of the city's best," April 9). Three of the feeder elementary schools, Cook-Wissahickon, Dobson, and Shawmont, have been highly successful in placing their graduates in magnet high schools across the city. Without magnet programs in place at Roxborough, parents will continue to send their children elsewhere. Once, there were magnet programs in the comprehensive high schools. Let's give Brandt a fighting chance by reinstating some at Roxborough.
