Will Eagles play at Sun Life Field if Lincoln is sold?

POSTED: Thursday, June 17, 2010, 8:00 PM

Lincoln National Corp., the Radnor-based life insurer and annuity sales company that pays for naming rights at the Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field, has worked itself into a position where it's too dependent on the ups and downs of the stock market - it was one of just three insurance companies that got rescued by the U.S. government's TARP bailouts - and that means it's a good candidate for getting sold, maybe to Sun Life Financial, the rival insurer headed by former Lincoln boss Jon Boscia, writes Sanford C. Bernstein research analyst Suneet Klamath. More in Wall St. Journal story here.

As my colleague Mike Armstrong reminds me, the Miami Dolphins already play in a Sun Life stadium.

So there would be Sun Life Stadium in Miami and Sun Life Field in Philly. I doubt it...

One thing that should happen if Lincoln is sold, don't name is after the creaking old piece of junk that was "The Vet". How about leaving it as Psychedeliceous suggest Eagle Field or Stadium sounds good. Lurie can afford doing without some lame corporate sponsor's name on the house. As someone without a great admiration for Jerry Jones, he has the naming of his place of business very correct. Who gives one hoot in hell the name of the field? You go there to watch Eagle football (for better or worse).

How about Philadelphia Taxpayers Memorial Stadium. Why not honor the people who really footed the bill?

I don't care what they call the stadium. I care if the team is playing well.

@psychedelicious: Jerry Jones is desperately trying to fleece a company for naming rights, but nobody's biting at his price. You can guarantee that Jerry will sell those naming rights as soon as anyone offers the right amount. It could be Viagra Stadium if they paid.

F.U. Field would be great considering how rowdy EAGLES fans can be.
