Sara Lee to close Exton plant; layoffs at Franklin Mills, Cognis

Sara Lee Corp. plans to lay off 62 at its Exton plant, the conglomerate told the Pennsylvania Labor Department's layoff-notice office. Other local job cuts announced this month include 109 at JCPenney's at Franklin Mills Mall, 30 at Cognis Corp. in Ambler, and 112 at nonprofit Liberty Resources in Center City.

JCPenney is closing its outlet stores across the US, my colleague Maria Panaritis says.

The Sara Lee layoffs, at the company's personal-care products plant on Eagleview Blvd., are in preparation for the plant's shutdown later this year amid a corporate reorganization, reports the Daily Local News here.
