Philly job fair for soldiers back from Iraq

An Ohio firm called RecruitMilitary LLC plans a job fair oriented to armed forces veterans on Thursday, 11 am - 3 pm, at Citizens Bank Park, with 35 government and private-sector employers, including Amtrak, the Border Patrol, Coca-Cola Bottling, the Defense Supply Center, Eaton Corp., the FBI, and Nixon Uniform Service, among others.

Recruit Military is owned and run by Drew Myers, a former Marine Corps artillery officer, and based in Columbus, Ohio; senior vice president is former Navy officer Matt Murphy, of Phoenixville.

"We're looking for military folks who are separating (from the service), veterans looking for jobs, and their spouses," said Randy Plunket, director of military affairs for DeVry Institute, Oak Brook Terrace, Ill., which he says has hired 50 instructors and administrators at past RecruitMilitary events, besides signing up hundreds more for career training.  He says DeVry is one of a number of employers that like to hire Iraq veterans: "They come back with a mature attitude. Their attitudes are positive. They are relentless. They realize they don't have time to waste."

Some 800 job-seekers are pre-registered for the event; admission is free and not limited to veterans, though that's who employers are specially looking for, said RecruitMilitary spokeswoman Karen Galvin.
