Two firms that set up hosted Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone services for businesses in Philadelphia and Tampa have made a World Series bet.

Alteva LLC, of Center City, whose 30 employees serve 15,000 phones at 350 companies, is backing the Phillies with a dozen cheesesteaks. Telovations Inc., a Tampa-based rival service, is putting two bushels of oranges on the Rays. Loser pays.

It was Alteva president William "Bill" Bumbernick (he founded the company in 2003) who issued the challenge. "It came up in conversation. We jabbed them a little," he said. "Those folks from Florida aren't quite as brash as us Philly guys."

"I've never had a cheesesteak," said Telovations spokeswoman Katie Gonzalez. "I'm looking forward to it."
