Virginia helicopter pilot Scott Kasprowicz and copilot Steve Sheik are claiming a new world record of 13 days for an around-the-world helicopter flight. Their AgustaWestland Grand helicopter, made at the Finmeccanica-owned copter factory in Northeast Philadelphia, will touch down there around 11:20 this morning after completing the last leg of its round-the-world flight to New York.
While they flew fast -- claiming a New York-to-London record 40 hours, among other quick legs -- this is a triumph of logistics and planning: "18 countries...78 fuel stops and 23,000 miles."
