The bargaining committee for union office cleaners at Merck's Collegeville campus, Westlakes Office Park, Bala Plaza, and other suburban buildings operated by Brandywine Realty Trust, Liberty Property Trust, Mack-Cali Realty and other landlords have reached a tentative labor agreement with Shellville Facility Services, Allan Industries Inc., Interstate Building Maintenance Corp., and other janitorial employers, SEIU Local 32 BJ Mid-Atlantic director Wayne MacManiman said in a statement.

The deal would boost average wages for 1,200 cleaners at suburban office and industrial buildings from the current $10.80/hour to $12.35 by 2016, MacManiman said. He called it "a win-win agreement." The deal also preserves employer-paid health care, vacation after the first year's service, and other contract terms.

Union members still have to vote on whether to ratify the contract. Talks toward a new agreement began in November. Cleaners had voted to strike Jan. 16 unless a contract is reached. The union signed a deal to boost wages for 2,600 Center City cleaners last year. (Updated)
