Directors of the Center City Residents’ Association voted last night Not to fight a proposed city ordinance to allow demolition of the Little Pete's diner and its replacement by a 12-story, $125 million Hudson hotel at 17th and Chancellor Sts., according to the developer Clemens Construction Co. owner Steve Pouppirt and Chancellor Hotel Associates LLP.
"That's basically right," confirmed CCRA executive director Steve Huntington. "We still have to get an agreement signed, but everyone's basically optimistic."
The proposed hotel would also include a rooftop restaurant, underground parking and stores, according to a statement by Carol Horne Penn, project director for Chancellor Hotel Associates. The developer has also been meeting with a neighboring nonprofit institution and other neighbors.
The threat to Little Pete's mobilized supporters of the cheap, popular diner (I guess we'll have to go to the Midtown III over on 18th St. now?) The "iconic" hotel "will completely transform this section of Rittenhouse Square,” promised its architect, Dave Schultz.
