The #1-selling book on Amazon.com is a kiddy-style picture book for adults called Go the F- to Sleep. Author Adam Mansbach (a Rutgers Camden fiction professor; he wrote The End of the Jews, Angry Black White Boy) uses the book's title as a harried parental lullabye refrain; Ricardo Cortes did the colorful drawings.
Mansbach tells me the as-yet unreleased book's sales took off after he introduced it at the Fourth Wall Arts Salon, at the National Museum of American Jewish History, on Independence Mall, April 23.
"He was here as part of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts," confirmed museum spokesman Jay Nachman. "We collaborated with this arts organization, Fourth Wall, with poets and singers and dancers. That's how (Mansbach) came to be there. It was a good program for us; it brought in a diverse audience."
Mansbach is New Voices Professor of Fiction at Rutgers University (Camden). Nachman says he may be back to talk at the museum in September.
Philly has never been a high-culture capital; from Quaker days we were, rather, a mass-culture center; and this is a sign we still are, in our Saturday Evening Post-TV Guide-Comcast tradition.
LA Times writes more about the book and Mansbach here.
