Feds: Hospital paid docs cash for brain patients

"Christiana Health Care... was in essence paying kickbacks"

"State and federal prosecutors today announced Christiana Care Health System has agreed to pay $3.3 million to resolve a whistleblower's lawsuit alleging misuse of state and federal health care funds," reports the Wilmington News Journal here.

"Prosecutors charge that Christiana Health Care, the largest health care provider in the state, was in essence paying kickbacks to a group of Wilmington neurologists [Neurology Associates] who regularly referred their patients to the hospital system....

"In court papers Christiana officials deny any wrongdoing and state they are only settling the case to avoid a lengthy and costly legal fight."
