"The shoe hurled at President George W. Bush has sent sales soaring at the Turkish maker as orders pour in from Iraq, the U.S. and Iran... The brown, thick-soled 'Model 271' may soon be renamed 'The Bush Shoe' or 'Bye-Bye Bush,' Ramazan Baydan, who owns the Istanbul-based producer Baydan Ayakkabicilik San. & Tic., told Bloomberg News in this story.

"Baydan has received orders for 300,000 pairs of the shoes since the attack, more than four times the number his company sold each year since the model was introduced in 1999. The company plans to employ 100 more staff to meet demand, he said...'We’ve been selling these shoes for years but, thanks to Bush, orders are flying in like crazy,' " Baydan said. " 'We’ve even hired an agency to look at television advertising.' "

An Iraqi reporter angry at the war in his country threw his shoes at Bush to show disrespect during a Dec. 14 press conference. Bush ducked, and later joked about the incident. The reporter was seized by other journalists and security and jailed by the Iraqi government, and has asked for a pardon.

Although I voted for Bush, I think he's a HEEL. I used to think he's as tough as LEATHER, but now I just hope he TIP-TOES quietly into the night. I'm not an Obama fan but I hope he can LACE up the LOOP-HOLES that Bush created. I'm sure that won't happen of course. Obama should have held his TONGUE during all the campaign speechafying. I'm happy for the shoemaker he'll be the SOLE benefactor in all this mess. He's a SHOE-in for man of the year.

Olney: You do realize that Arabic speaking christians and jews refer to God as Allah, right? Al means "The" and "Lah" means "God", literally "The (one) God". While personally I don't think that GW did very much for the rank-and-file American in the last eight years, just look at the mess we are in right now, I do have an immense amount of respect for the office of the president. Hurling shoes at our leader is inappropriate at any level. He's our guy, like it or not, and its OUR place to handle any excesses that he may have committed while in office. I have to say, though, that I was proud of his lightning-fast dodge of that initial flying shoe. Something tells me that he's had inanimate objects thrown at him regularly in the past.... What I want to know is where was his PSD when that second show was midair.

Will there be a US or world tour for the Iraqi sole man?

Make enough of those, and the shoe throw will become an olympic event.

I'd throw a shoe at him if I had a chance.

PennGuy86, I'm glad you asked those questions. I posted 8 items at http://go.philly.com/phillydeals today - the other 7 on serious financial and economic topics - but this one got the most hits. It's also very popular at Bloomberg News, which broke the story. You'd prefer we write things readers don't care about? Like the conservative New York Sun, which is sadly out of business?

Yes, all of us here are, indeed, twisted and sick. Got a problem with that?

George Bush stood on principal when he invaded Iraq and killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. Yes, he should be saluted for going in after oil and leaving the Arab world even more angry at Western democracy. Let's all give a round of applause to Dhubbyha

I despise Bush with every cell in my body, but I could never condone someone insulting our President this way. The man is a first class idiot and in many cases a criminal, but the office he holds has been held by so many great men before him and it deserves our and the world's respect. It's one thing to protest, it's another to threaten the leader of a country with physical harm, even if it was just a shoe.

Why is this news? No wonder why the Inquirer is in a precipitous decline to its coming insolvency!

Too bad we could never buy 'hanging chards' -- when the second election was stolen...

God Bless America...And God Bless George W. Bush, one of the Truly Great American Presidents! If Muntadar al-Zaidi had thrown that shoe at Sadaam he would have been beheaded on the spot. He has Mr. Bush to thank that he is still alive. Allah Bless George W. Bush!!!

I see there are still some people who have not sought professional help for their Bush Derangement Sydrome. I would say that a mind is a terrible thing to waste, but these alleged Americans never had much of one to begin with.
