Steven Welch, a 1999 Penn State engineering grad who sold biotech developer Mitos Group to Parker Hannifin in 2007 and has been busy fathering a family and mentoring DreamIt Ventures would-be entrepreneurs since then, has thrown his hat in the campaign ring as a Republican challenger for the Delaware County seat held by U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Pa., who's mulling a challenge to U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, now D-Pa. Welch's slick campaign site here.

I wholeheartedly welcome this run as we desperately need more entrepreneural thinking in Congress. (It wouldn't hurt to have more in PA or Philly either!)

By definition an Entrepreneur is someone who takes responsibility. I can't think of a better kind of person to enter the world of politics where most are focused on avoiding responsibility. More specifically I think Steve Welch has a great oppurtunity to fill the vacuum of identity and original ideas that's pervaded the Republican party since the 2008 general election. Hopefully Steve is the first of a New Republican Party that has to eventually emerge in our two party system.

Steve Welch will provide a great counterpoint to the embrace of bigger government by both sides of the aisle. We need folks like Steve in Congress to advocate responsible limited government and represent the interests of the Pennsylvania entrepreneur, both present and future.
