Carper limit on state bank powers sweeps Senate

Better one tame gorilla than 50 monkeys

Is there no limit to how far Senators will go to bash banks this Spring?

Of course there are limits. A proposal by Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., to limit states' powers to set stricter bank limits than federal regulators allow won a resounding 80-18 victory in the Senate, after a still more-bank-friendly Republican bill was turned down.

It's a victory for the credit card industry (a big employer in Delaware) and other national financial companies who'd rather deal with the single gorilla of federal regulation, which they know well, than the uncertainties of 50 potentially activist States.
