Bruce Toll, the high-end tract-home developer who's been beefing up his apartment-building and coal-mining investments in recent years, keeps adding car dealerships, too. He'll be opening Caitlin Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram on Saturday, 140 Old York Road, Jenkintown, ribbon-cutting 10 a.m., doors open at 9. "Just another expansion of my auto business," Toll told me. The new dealership is named for his granddaughter.
It was Chrysler's suggestion, according to Toll, who broke into the business with the purchase of the sprawling Reedman Auto World dealership in Langhorne in 2004. The Chrysler lines are "my most successful franchise up at Reedman," with sales averaging over 200 cars a month, so he figured an adjoining territory "would be a great asset."
Toll bought the former Bryner Chevrolet site, left vacant when that dealer moved to the ex-Cadillac property at Baederwood Shopping Center. Deal was cash, no outside financing, says Toll. "We have completely rehabilitated the Chevrolet agency and converted it into a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep prototype."
In 2011, Toll expanded in Delaware County with a Chevrolet dealership in Springfield. Last year Toll pushed into Chester County with a new Chevrolet agency in Exton; he's building a home for Honda and Subaru at a Downingtown site. "I intend to keep expanding in the greater Philadelphia area," he concluded.
