UPDATE: Just in case anyone missed it in the Inquirer and philly.com today, freebie newspaper Metro Philadelphia says it'll be back tomorrow, after a weeklong publication break. Andy Maykuth's Inquirer story here.

YESTERDAY: Metro Philadelphia boxes were empty today as the free "daily" tabloid newspaper failed to return from the July 4 weekend. Joins the Evening Bulletin on the newly-disappeared minor-dailies list (tho Bulletin publisher Tom Rice is still trying to resurrect it). Employees say Metro is supposed to return Thursday July 9 after an extended vacation. Website hasn't been updated this week.  Publisher Eric Mayberry left earlier this year and hasn't been replaced.

Don't get too excited Joseph, it can happen to any one of us.

obscene gesture
The real story here is... who cares? The metro like all of the other Philadelphia Newspapers print's one sided garbage. The articles all consist entirely of misspelled and misused words. It almost looks like they hire 10 year old kids to write the articles..

It's bad, but it's something to distract you from the smell, noise and behavior of the other riders on the SEPTA.

Wow, this is some responsible journalism. Good job of starting a rumour that a rival paper is no more. I also like that Metro is now a "tabloid," unlike the classy top of the line non-sensational Daily News and Inquirer.

Politburo
Tabloid refers to the size of the paper. The DN is also a tabloid. The Inquirer is a broadsheet.

They said in their Weekend edition that they were on a break until Thursday. Metro boxes were also empty Monday, captain obvious.

Darn it, Politburo... I love correcting people on the "tabloid" misinterpretation and I was hoping I'd get the chance to here (as someone was sure to bring it up).

Metro = Rag. Rag = Metro. Now lets get busy shutting down the Philadelphia Daily News and inviting some REAL competition to this town.

Hey, obscene gesture, allow me to correct your writing: The metro ["Metro," in italics] like all of the other Philadelphia Newspapers [no capital "N"] print's ["prints," not "print's"] one sided ["one-sided," with hyphen] garbage. The articles all consist entirely of misspelled and misused words [sort of like your post]. It almost looks like ["as if," not "like"] they hire ["hired," past tense] 10 year old ["10-year-old" with hyphens] kids to write the articles." Don't criticize the quality of writing until you can write on at least a sixth-grade level.

Metro is further to the Left than the Inquirer, with the Op-Ed featuring commentators from The Nation. Good riddance.

Like Sarah Palin, they went to sleep with the fishes or went fishing or quit or got their priorities.
